A POSTMAN with a previously spotless record admitted dumping more than 1,500 packages in a tip.

Brian Davis claimed he was 'under pressure' from Royal Mail managers, Chester Magistrates Court heard.

Described as 'the best postman Little Sutton had ever had,' Davis, of Central Avenue, Ellesmere Port, dumped the mail at a recycling centre, instead of delivering it, on three occasions.

Lachlan Nisbet, prosecuting for Royal Mail, said: 'He has committed a breach of trust and undermined public confidence in the postal system.'

Davis, 23, first dumped the mail in March after he suffered a nose bleed at the sorting office and wasn't allowed to go home and change his shirt which had blood on it.

After he left to do his round, his nose started to bleed again, this time on to some of the packages.

He put the mail in a recycling bin and returned to the sorting office.

Chris Hunt, defending, said: 'This is a very sad case.

'Mr Davis suffered a serious injury to his knee playing football.

'He was put on a round unfamiliar to him and was unable to walk properly or take painkillers as they had an adverse effect on his job.

'He felt he wasn't in a position to approach the management and there after found the managerial position more and more unsupportive.'

Davis resigned from the Royal Mail in April and is now on benefits while working part-time as a shelf stacker.

Chair of the bench, Howard Evans, said: 'The aggravating factors are that it was deliberate, there's a loss of the general public's post and then a lack of trust in the postal system.'

Davis will be sentenced at a later date.

It's a shame that the magistrate can't sentence the guy's manager for being a twat - perfect example of a good bloke's life ruined by insensitivity and an abject lack of responsible management.

I suppose he came in during IA (management we'll look after you) and did everything else management told him. He really needs to grow a backbone :mad
