Flintshire MP condemns Royal Mail sell-off proposals

ALYN and Deeside MP Mark Tami has launched a stinging attack on Conservative plans to privatise Royal Mail.

Mr Tami said Government proposals to sell off Royal Mail will lead to the closure of post offices, as well as increased costs.

He added: “I have been approached by many sub-postmasters who are deeply alarmed by the Tory plan to decimate our postal network.

“Post offices are suffering at the moment and privatisation will send many to the wall.

“It is grotesquely hypocritical that the Tories are now proposing to ruin the publicly owned nature of Royal Mail, yet before the election they exploited fears over post office closures.

“When Labour was in power we took realistic action to ensure the Post Office network had a viable future, now the Tories have taken that future and are determined to force through a sell-off of the service.

“Royal Mail and the previous Labour Government had a fully costed plan for modernisation within the public sector.

“Privatisation is not needed, not wanted and not in the best interest of residents.”
