I believe in France that once you reach a certain age (no pun intended) the postie used to be given a reserved duty that recognised that the body has taken a lot of strain over the years on delivery.
Several years ago, I believe the ,French Post company was threatening to do away with this perk and at the time I believe strike action was looming. Not sure what happened in the end.I wonder whether it has anything to do with the spate of suicides mentioned in another thread.

In that 15 years Acillies Tendenitis,Herna op, Knee op, replacement Hip last year, just got back from Hospital after check up today other Hip on the way out, now having to do more delivery span time, all rotational days gone in the re-pick possibly having to do 6 DAY WEEKS FOR 6 WEEKS AND THEN 1 WEEK OFF IF I MAKE IT. :d'oh! :d'oh! :d'oh! :d'oh!

I think age (and length of service) should be factored into delivery spans, nobody stays a whippersnapper for ever .Although of course seniority would have helped in the past where you could have picked a less strenuous duty. Lengthening of rounds through park and loop will put more strain on aging joints.

Fatigue – Understanding, Identifying and tackling the causes of fatigue.
It's in the agreement..
You can't understand, identify or tackle fatigue without understanding the difference between how it affects a 20 year old and how it affects a 55 year old.
Or is this agreement just a load of empty words. :whistle
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

This is a strange one isn't it.
First off,all you wippersnappers on the site, you'll get old and creaky just like me and the other oldies on here. :Very Happy

In all jobs especially manual ones the productivity would be higher for a youngen rather than an olden in most cases, not all but a lot of them.
So what do you do,how do you deal with it,any examples around.

I would say in our line of work at least it's impossible to work out.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Yeah, we have the younger generation in our office all running around to get home 30 minutes earlier than the old uns. But who gets all the complaints, who run across gardens to cut time, who leave packets on doorsteps etc etc. If that is the image that Royal Mail wish to portray then so be it. I am in training at the moment to slow down to a nice steady crawl around the walk, as I find myself at times speeding up without knowing it, and what for. As for six day weeks, whoever agreed to that nonsense must be dead in the head. They will be dead anyway if they carry on in this job for too long on those shifts.
