Recorded Signed For - Has the Post Office undercharged me?

Post by taless »

Hi,

I'm new here! I am slightly worried about my mail, hence my first visit here.

I went to a post office this afternoon to send some documents to DVLA.

Since I have quite a lot of 2nd Class Large stamps lying in my drawer, I stuck one of it to the envelope and expected to pay the Recorded Signed For price, which at that time I thought it was about 60p-ish. (Now know it's 74p!)

The customer service agent took my mail, asked me is it '2nd class Recorded Signed For' that I wanted which I replied to the affirmative, weighed it, scanned a Registered Signed For sticker, and printed out another postage sticker which he later affixed to the mail. He then asked me for 59p.

I had some thoughts it was too cheap, but just paid it anyway because I guess he should know better!

This is my receipt:
-----------------------------
Weight - 0.100kg
Recorded 2nd Large Letter - £1.25

PrePaidAmount - -£0.66

Total Cost of Services - £0.59
------------------------------
It appears he had refunded me the cost of a 1st Class Large Stamp (66p), not 2nd Class Large Stamp (51p).

What will happen here? Will the sticker on my mail say 59p OR 74p? If it is 59p, will it be classed as a under-postage? What will happen here then?

Thanks!

the pricing system is very complicated, so complicated that even our local postmaster is wrong half the time.
rest assured, its in the sysem with sufficient stamps to deliver it and it will get there.
the pricing is all weight and size combined so you may have gained 10p but the big question is.......... what will you spend it on?

Haha, thanks for the reassurance!

To be honest I would really preferred to fork out the extra 15p! It was out of curiosity why was it so cheap to send recorded (as I remember it was at least the 60-ish pence mark) that I did this research, and got worried!

I posted my mail at 5.25pm (and it says Posted After Last Collection - Yes). You don't think there's a need for me to return to that Post Office first thing tomorrow to get it 'up-priced'?

Tha label will say 59p which is an underpayment of 15p but it shouldn't be surcharged as such a label indicates that it was accepted at a Post Office and the mistake made there not by the sender sticking the wrong stamp on before putting it in a pillar box.
