Keep the Post Public - Demonstrations in Kingston, Birmingham and Nottingham

1. Kingston upon Thames,22 January

Arrangements for this Saturday's national demonstration are progressing, with music and speakers from the CWU, Labour Party and other organisations now confirmed. Advertisements have been placed in national, local and regional newspapers, and home mailings by post and email to thousands of CWU members and other supporters have taken place. In addition the London Regional Committee has organised leafleting in Kingston on the morning of the demonstration amongst a number of other activities.

The assembly point and rally is at Fairfield Recreation Ground at 12 noon. The march will move off at approximately 12:45pm on a route through Kingston town centre. We envisage that the event will conclude at approximately13:30pm.

2. Birmingham, 29 January

The Midlands Regional Committee is organising a regional demonstration in Birmingham City Centre to take place on 29 January.

Time: 11.30am.

Place: Victoria Square, Birmingham, B1 1BD.

Speakers include Billy Hayes, general secretary CWU, and Jack Dromey MP.

Backed by Birmingham Labour Party, the Midlands Trade Union Congress, and the GMB, Unison,
Unite, and USDAW trade unions.

3. Nottingham 19 February

Branches are also asked to note and support the Nottingham demonstration organised for 19 February. The Nottingham and District branch has been involved in a lengthy dispute with Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry who has allegedly mislead Parliament in her description of the CWU's campaign. We believe that the matter is currently with the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Guest speakers include CWU General Secretary, Billy Hayes and Lilian Greenwood, Labour MP for Nottingham South.

Time: Assemble from 1pm (march will commence at 2pm)

Place: Mail Centre, Padge Road, Beeston, Nottingham, NG9 2RR.

Rally to follow at New Venture Social Club, Technology Drive, off Meadow Road, Beeston, Nottingham where you can enjoy hospitality and live music.

Most of us do not finish at a reasonable time on a Saturday anymore, thanks to the very people organising these rallies.
