Hi,
Does anybody know if there are serious problems affecting mail in Oxfordshire? Specifically OX1 and OX28. A package sent by 1st class tracked mail from Amazon took over a week to OX28 and I'm waiting for other packages to arrive that were sent either 1st Class Tracked or 1st Class Recorded last Friday.

Just spoken to Witney sorting office and have been told they are experiencing a number of problems at Swindon Distribution Centre which is affecting mail within Oxfordshire.

Why not have a word with your MP and ask him to give an assurance that things WON'T get worse after HIS Government has sold off Royal Mail.andysimms wrote:Just spoken to Witney sorting office and have been told they are experiencing a number of problems at Swindon Distribution Centre which is affecting mail within Oxfordshire.

Re: Slow mail in Oxfordshire?
With regard to the tracked items, Amazon use the Tracked, not Next Day Tracked therefore it will be a few days to a week to arrive.
There are no more problems than usual affecting the SN/OX/RG postcodes (all sorted in Swindon now) - there's been a few failures this week but so long as the senders local mail centre got the item out on Friday it should have been with you a while now. OX28/29 is pretty hard to mix up and any mistakes should have been corrected by the next day.
We did have the head honcho of Royal Mail walking round Swindon MC on Monday and a trailer or two of mail was hidden in the yard to make the building look clean and tidy but that is all out and delivered now.
@daveallum: what sort of mail are we talking here? mech/manual letters/flats or packets?

Its an assortment,we get letters, flats, packets, not just for the OX postcodes but believe it or not we get quite a bit for the SN postcode as well, makes you wonder what goes on in Swindon.

Thats sounds like us in HD - we keep getting letters and flats for WD, HP, HG, a few years ago we actually had a yorkie full of a bulk mailing for WD I think it was.daveallum wrote:Its an assortment,we get letters, flats, packets, not just for the OX postcodes but believe it or not we get quite a bit for the SN postcode as well, makes you wonder what goes on in Swindon.

Re: Slow mail in Oxfordshire?
I'm in OX14 and so far this year
I received a Christmas card on 10th January from a friend who lives three miles away,
I am tracking an on-line order that was mailed on 12th January and is showing 'Delayed at Depot' on 17th January and most worrying,
I am waiting for a 'significant' cheque from the USA which was mailed on 3rd January.
Our mail is now being delivered on alternate days and I would challenge the obvious suggestion that perhaps there isn't any mail for our house on those days when none arrives judging by the amount that is delivered. Our local postie (who has disappeared) always delivered around 9am. Now it comes anytime between midday and 4pm. WHAT is going on!!?

Re: Slow mail in Oxfordshire?
There have been reports of some areas sending out Mail on alternate days, in an attempt to clear the backlogs at their Delivery Offices (DOs). I don't know for certain if that's what's causing the problems for you, as I don't know which ones are doing that, and which ones aren't (it still seems to be a rare tactic so far). But it sounds like that's what's happening. The theory is, that they can send out more Mail to the addresses they deliver to that day, and catch up. But frankly, I don't think that the Managers should be getting away with this tactic. Especially, as I can't see it being effective (the Mail for the rounds which are missed that day, will back up). And worse, it's a clear breach of the Universal Service Obligation (USO).Phoebeskye wrote:I'm in OX14 and so far this year
