Green Party....258,954
BNP..............514,819
Both fielded roughly the same number of candidates...a frightening thought.

I like the Greens,i like their policies and the people involved but ......
Rapidly growing force in the British Government?....I'm afraid not...what they are is a party for socialists with a conscience,nice decent people...people i would quite like as friends but a credible force in politics they are not.

Yes they are there. The amount of votes coming is increasing with every election Membership down south for the GPEW is growing all the time at its quickest pace for some time. With that comes more activists who can get out and about and sell the green party for want of a better phrase. Membership for the scottish GP I have no idea as they are not a part of the GPEW. GPEW and the Scottish Green Party are two totally seperate parties in the UK.

They are separate...and together.
The GPEW as you like to call them although it sounds a bit too eastern european military for my taste ,the Scottish Green Party and the Green Party of Northern Ireland all share the same roots in the Ecology Party in the early seventies.
It was always policy to de-centralise and devolve into separate parties but they are still closely linked through policy and are in constant contact.
In some ways we are further through the green cycle having our first MSP in 1999 through to a peak of 7 in 2003 but unfortunately now down to two.
Green Politics will always be minority politics because "conscience" politics scares the crap out of guys like Rupert and the Barclay twins and if you control the media you can decide exactly what the masses read and just how big for it's boots a minority party gets.

I certainly hope to live to see a Green Prime Minister, and I don't mean a Martian, because if he/she is elected Prime Minister then I would be older than Methuselah In fact there is more likelihood for a Martian at No 10.

UK Greens in government is most likely to happen as part of a coalition. Co operation and working with other parties is nothing new to UK Greens as they do it at European level by sitting in a green/nationalist grouping of political parties so the enlightened are now discussing the merits of doing something similar at domestic level.
