Delivery problems in LA3?

Post by davthepunk »

Hi, I just found this forum after Googling for 'royal mail delays north west'. I wonder if anyone here might be able to tell me the current situation?

I've been waiting on a few parcels that were apparently dispatched at the end of December and the first few days of January (eBay and Amazon stuff). I understand that there's been delays - and I'm prepared to wait for a while longer to see if they turn up.

Thing is that two days this week, including today - there hasn't been any post delivered to my house at all. I live in a house that's been converted into flats and there is *always* a big pile of stuff for various people, most of whom no longer live here, that comes through the door every day (been here for years - can't remember a day when there's been nothing). Monday and today - nothing. I've been waiting in, just in case I have to sign for something or a parcel comes that won't fit through the letterbox.

I notice that a postie went down the other side of the road this afternoon (long main road - different guys do different sides), but my side seems to have been missed.

Are they having backlog-related problems at the Morecambe delivery office, does anyone know? Someone gave me the phone number for the office (which may not even be current, considering that the numbers seem to be ex-directory now), but no-one seems to be answering whenever I've rung up.

Cheers.

I am afraid I don't know the situation at the Morecambe Delivery Office but there are reports on here, from press cuttings and members that the North West Region (which you might come under) are still trying to get rid of their backlog so you may be caught up i that.

As to actually getting an answer thats a common problem in most Delivery offices. The phone is usually in the Callers Office where customers collect parcels as you will probably appreciate when there is a backlog this is one of the busiest places to work in, they are probably concentrating on the queue and answering the phone as and when there are gaps.

However, if the phone goes to managers then it is I am afraid a constant complaint from posties that when they try to contact them from their deliveries for any reason they run into exactly the same problem.

I am afraid the best way to get a manager to call you is to through the torturous menu system on 08457 740 740 as this is the only official channel where complaints/queries are formalised.

Thanks for that. I (somehow - didn't last time) managed to get through to a human who told me that yes, problems with sickness have prevented deliveries.

I'll give my packages a few more days - maybe 'till this time next week, before I start contacting senders. The guy on the phone said everything should be back to normal by then.

Do you have any idea as to the situation with parcels posted from Germany? I was sent some CDs just after Christmas - those are my earliest outstanding item...

Sorry but they probably came through HWDC (at heathrow) and they had some real problems with backlogs just before Christmas as well, both snow and flights etc cancelled. I think though they should arrive within a few days of your UK stuff :pray .

Hopefully Royal Mail (well management anyway) have really learned lessons from the debacle over Christmas, posties on the ground did try to warn them, but I guess they knew better :chuckle :chuckle .

Good luck and I hope you get everything soon.

there have been massive problems in lancaster and morecambe because of the revisions that they've brought in just before xmas, only thing i can suggest is go down to the delivery office and ask to see the manager, perhaps ask him if you can collect your mail/packets/parcels from now on if it's convenient for you. all the best from sunny kendal.

Thanks Hazzeem. Could these revisions, whatever they involve, be the reason why my mail started being delivered later in the weeks before Xmas (pre snow)?

I was just thinking that the extra volume of Christmas mail was the reason that my post wasn't arriving 'till 1/2pm...

Yes - Dundee and other places have experienced the same as your area - We have covered as many stories as we can find in the NEWS section.

We live in LA3 and are suffering exactly the same problems as you, to receive no mail is unusual, to get none several days of the week is unheard of. Also I now 'know' of mail I should have which hasnt been delivered. The question is, should I ring or just go to the sorting office. Some of the stuff that is missing is really important. Did you get any satisfaction when you rang?

I haven't actually been able to get through to the sorting office itself - I called the 08457 number yesterday. Just tried again now, rang it for 3 minutes - but no answer.

I actually want to check if they're holding any packages for me (cards haven't always been put through in the past) - not to bitch at the manager about the delivery problems, which I fully understand aren't his fault. Maybe they're not answering the phone due to the volume of 'where's my stuff, bro?' calls?

Might go down there later myself.

Just for the record, the majority of my overdue packages arrived this afternoon, along with a three-inch thick wad of mail addressed to various other/former residents of the flats...

Think that it may have been the manager/asst. manager who brought them round. Fella in a suit at any rate.

If it was a crumpled suit and the belt was under strain then yes it was probably a RM Manager.

Thanks for updating us though much appreciated.

last I heard managers were finishing off the walks everyday and even delivering parcels on sundays, basically the posties rounds have been made so big that they can't be done in the allotted time. Hence managers turning up with mail at very odd times.
