LTB 013/11 - Keep the Post Public: Eastern Region Demonstration, 9th January 2011 - A REMINDER

No. 013/11

Ref:

Date: 6th January 2011

To All Branches

Dear Colleagues,

Keep the Post Public: Eastern Region Demonstration, 9th January 2011
Witney, Oxfordshire - A REMINDER

Further to LTB 1152/10, branches are reminded of the Eastern Region's demonstration that will take place in Witney on 9th January 2011.

Witney is of course the constituency of the Prime Minister, the Rt.Hon. David Cameron MP.

Assembly is at 11am at Church Green, Witney followed by a march around Witney to rally back at Church Green.

Confirmed speakers include the General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary (Postal), Farzi Ismail, (one of the students occupying part of the University of London in protest at the increase in tuition fees), a representative of Save All UK Youth Centres (one of whose young members was questioned by police at his school when it became known he was trying to organise an anti-cuts protest in the constituency), Tony Lennon (SERTUC and former president of BECTU), Ann Black (Labour Party NEC) with local MPs also invited. There will also be music.

Please find below a link to an interesting article about the event in the Oxford Times, (including a section at bottom with 26 comments)

Further information is available from Eastern Regional Secretary Paul Moffat on 07912 955 417 (easternregion@cwu.org) or Paul Garraway on 01865 714 749 (southcentralno1@googlemail.com).

This event is important in its own right and also as part of the build-up for the national demonstration in Kingston-upon-Thames on 22 January. We hope for a good turnout in support of the KTPP campaign.

Yours sincerely,

W.Hayes
General Secretary

Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (Postal)
