On the 13th of October 2010 Vince Cable announced his plans for the privatisation of the Royal Mail saying, “Royal Mail is in a difficult position - there is no hiding from the facts: mail volumes falling; a multi billion pound pension deficit; less efficiency than its competitors and an urgent need for more capital at a time when there are huge constraints on the public purse.”

So what Vince Cable is saying is the Government wants to walk all over EU competition laws and create a private monopoly.

This privatisation is being driven by the desire to enable the Government to raid our pension fund,to the tune of 26 billion. I was just wondering if our Union could mount a legal challenge in court to prevent the Government from doing this. This money is ours,not theirs. If the Government realised that they couldn't touch our pension money,i doubt that they would be as enthusiastic to push this privatisation through.
