The record rise in the cost of sending a letter smacks suspiciously of this Government fattening up the Royal Mail for privatisation.

To put up a first-class stamp by 5p to 46p, and a second-class by 4p to 36p, could be disastrous, especially when email is free.

But in the short-term it will raise cash and boost profits - making the Royal Mail more attractive to the Dutch or German operators who are potential bidders.

Once again, the ConDems are showing contempt for a great British service.

And we'll all pick up the tab for another madcap privatisation.

Vince Cable should stick to dancing. When he was in opposition to Labour he seemed a common sense guy with sound financial and budgeting skills, and I was nearly swayed to vote for Liberal Democrats. Thank god I never. This guy is as two faced as his leader, and has no idea how his plans are going to effect the daily lives of the ordinary medium to low paid workers/ex workers in this country.

i was around in the seventies when the socialists were rampant, in government and on the streets and what a mess the country was in then! right or left they are all useless!

So what do you suggest, a society with no regulations, laws, in other words a Darwin society where the fittest survive. Are we not heading that way at present.
