Look sonny, I've probably been on more strikes, stood on more picket lines, than you've had Farley's rusks. :Very Happy

I sit here and ponder just what good it has done me, or my colleagues, these last 10 years or so, to try and improve our lot through striking, and frankly, I cannot think of a damn thing. :evil/mad

After the last betrayal by our union's top table, I will only ever go on strike if there's a clear commitment from them, to take back every single thing they have given away this last decade.

Saturday turned into a normal working day, by fookers who have long since forgotten what it was like to get up at 4.00 of a Saturday morning, never mind having to be at a place of work by 6.00am.

Bob Gibson, a fat fooking gobshyte, who has almost single-handedly increased that bane of every postal worker on deliveries, D2Ds, even agreeing with management a "day specific" type of D2D crap, which will be an absolute bloody nightmare in years to come for any poor sod on deliveries. The fat fooker even thought it was just fookin' dandy to scrap our payments for delivering the crap, and then replace it with a totally removable at any time by RM, allowance.

Who among us ever went out on strike for that, certainly not me, certainly not my colleagues, but this is what we got, and were told to lump it. :evil/mad

Now, I'm laughably asked to strike, in order to preserve what I'm now left with.

No chance. :cuppa

Over pensions?...when not every member is in the pension scheme?...and most members under 30 couldn't give a s**t about their pensions anyway?...and after the 2008 pension capitulation that cost members a fortune?

Now you and i and most of the members on this forum know that this is not about pensions but you cannot campaign for a yes vote on the real issue.

So you are left with an issue that's very emotive for some but to be frank means bugger all to others and a third group who believe that the union had it's chance on pensions and blew it.

If you were in Bob,Dave and Billy's position would you risk it?....unless it was the VERY last throw of the dice. :nervous

Ward comes out from under his stone after the worst deal in my 25 years and shouts strike and expects everbody to jump to the beat f***ing dream on , the biggest mess ever and the union turn there back on us now he wants us to strike i will walk through the picket line , if privatised i will probably be part time or even lose my job but one thing is sure ward and his twin will lose theirs and that is what they are frightened of then they will have to work for a change along with their london cronies . c.w.u just like management only show an interest when they want something C.W.U R.I.P

Sorry to burst your bubble Edwardo but whenever someone up high f*cks up they dont lose out. Ward & Hayes will get other top jobs just like Crozier did

I have no problems having a discussion about policy or strategy and dealing with fact or opinions , but verbal attacks or name calling is bang out of order and the mods should stop it.

Look the only way a union can decide if it takes industrial action is via a legal ballot taking into account anti trade union employment laws.

So if a union decides to go down this route it will have to be confident it has the members backing and this means the campaign has to be aimed at the members more not just the mps.

Now the choice members will have to make is this :

Do they allow the Con dems to end the pension fund.

You see the postal bill going forward states that no new owner can have a pension fund which can go into deficit. Which means that the care scheme which replaced the final salary will finish as it is a risk for a new owner. The only non risk pension scheme going forward is a money purchase scheme which means the employer does not fund any part of the pension and therefore is not at risk.

In addition to this the pension fund will have to be split as post office counters will not be sold off to a new owner/s and will remain owned by the Government.

Plus the assets of the pension scheme our assets will be stolen by the government.

In additon to this we will see the USO put at risk , not just on whether it delivers 6 days per week but what mail streams will be included in the USO. Royal Mail would only want stamp mail to be included which allows them the flexiblity to deliver mail on less days per week.

In addition whether you like the 2010 agreement or not it allows for protection of full time jobs, no complusory redundancies , MTSF terms , any new owner can rip up all the safeguards and change other parts of the agreement , and do you really think the new owners will not cut your terms and conditions more to please their share holders.

Now it will be up to you whether if the union decides to ballot you for strike action whether you support it but dont con yourself into thinking that the sell off will not effect you in a way which makes the 2010 national agreement appear to be small beer.

So by all means debate the merits of the case to fight or not but calling people names is childish and in my view a cowards way of hiding behind a keyboard and I think Royal Mail chat is better than that.

If it comes to the crunch, and our terms and conditions are on the line, along with our pensions,I believe it would be a yes vote.

Well if I was the buyer there are a great number of things that I would outsource. As the government is willing to underwrite the pension and maintain it as is, at least for the time being then that is not an issue. As for terms and conditions, well striking doesn't appear to have had much of an impact in recent years judging from the last debacle.
