Go out on strike and suddenly it's called off and inferior terms are won is how most cwu members I know feel .Will it be 3rd time lucky?norwichchris wrote:What an utter disgrace you lot are! Everyone of us needs to be out on strike to defend our jobs, you should be thrown out of the CWU for good.

Forget the last strike and stop whinging. It was put to a vote across the union members. I had a pay cut under the way forward agreement but just got on with it as it was brought in by a vote. People in mail centres are losing jobs-not d2d payments -i e: a £18000 pa pay cut, NOT £1000. If Royal Mail is privatised ,by god you will look back and think what a great deal the 2010 agreement was compared what will head your way under a private company i.e, Low pension (if any) , minimum wage, full 'flexibility' and a whole lot worse. Its time to wake up and fight to keep what youve got!!!!!!!!!

Re: Postal workers threaten strikes against privatisation
I think it should have headlined "Dave Ward and 500 London postal workers threaten strike action", neither he nor the London CWU represent the entire postal workers either union or non union.................where was the rhetoric when terms and conditions, the previous pension robbing, the job losses and the support for strike action. I think it is little more than self interest involved in the CWU stance.
As for privatisation undermining the agreement
Royal Mail are doing a wonderful job AND with union support...............where's the revision payments, the equipment.............

No chance the CWU will get my vote this time.
Lost pay last year and all we got was a rotten deal, more work for less money.........mmm, almost sounds like a private company.
I'll sit this one out.

This thread is like a dirty strike breakers forum. Remove the yellow streak from your backs and support any national postal strike! Or will you be happy on a 15hr contract and minimum wage under a private firm?

If there is a call for strike action,it will be a yes vote.

unlike this narrow minded lot, most postal workers can see the bigger picture, and just what we face under privatisation. Bring on the national ballot asap!

Re: Postal workers threaten strikes against privatisation
It seems strange that only the initiated see "the big picture"...............strange that when the 2010 and Beyond was being criticised, lo and behold those in disagreement failed to see "the big picture"...........in reality "the big picture" doesn't exist, its just a sound bite for those eager to point out their supposed superior understanding of any given situation. You'll notice the people who use it most are those who aren't in any way connected with whatever plans a privatised industry may or may not have...........it's pure conjecture.norwichchris wrote:unlike this narrow minded lot, most postal workers can see the bigger picture, and just what we face under privatisation. Remember when email was going to replace the mail, when TNT was going to have its own delivery staff, when Royal Mail was going to do away with D2D...all suggested by those who see the picture bigger than it actually is.

Look sonny, I've probably been on more strikes, stood on more picket lines, than you've had Farley's rusks.norwichchris wrote:This thread is like a dirty strike breakers forum. I sit here and ponder just what good it has done me, or my colleagues, these last 10 years or so, to try and improve our lot through striking, and frankly, I cannot think of a damn thing.
After the last betrayal by our union's top table, I will only ever go on strike if there's a clear commitment from them, to take back every single thing they have given away this last decade.
Saturday turned into a normal working day, by fookers who have long since forgotten what it was like to get up at 4.00 of a Saturday morning, never mind having to be at a place of work by 6.00am.
Bob Gibson, a fat fooking gobshyte, who has almost single-handedly increased that bane of every postal worker on deliveries, D2Ds, even agreeing with management a "day specific" type of D2D crap, which will be an absolute bloody nightmare in years to come for any poor sod on deliveries. The fat fooker even thought it was just fookin' dandy to scrap our payments for delivering the crap, and then replace it with a totally removable at any time by RM, allowance.
Who among us ever went out on strike for that, certainly not me, certainly not my colleagues, but this is what we got, and were told to lump it.
Now, I'm laughably asked to strike, in order to preserve what I'm now left with.
No chance.

Over pensions?...when not every member is in the pension scheme?...and most members under 30 couldn't give a s**t about their pensions anyway?...and after the 2008 pension capitulation that cost members a fortune?POSTMAN wrote:If there is a call for strike action,it will be a yes vote.
Now you and i and most of the members on this forum know that this is not about pensions but you cannot campaign for a yes vote on the real issue.
So you are left with an issue that's very emotive for some but to be frank means bugger all to others and a third group who believe that the union had it's chance on pensions and blew it.
If you were in Bob,Dave and Billy's position would you risk it?....unless it was the VERY last throw of the dice.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Postal workers threaten strikes against privatisation
I do believe a strike vote might just get through...........but that is as far as it goes. I doubt that a strike would be called, it would be a bargaining tool for the CWU, not for the members, as most votes have been in recent years.
There isn't a shadow of doubt in my mind that Royal Mail does need a new impetus and organisation, slim, trim, fit for purpose and profitable to the extent of being able to invest without handouts.............in order for that to happen it needs a management capable of producing those results.......but does that mean privatisation? I suspect it does and the reason for that is the continued poor performance of the company despite all efforts to improve and that is NOT an indictment of the shop floor who have implemented change after change knowing that the changes aren't going to make any improvement.
