atos referall

I have been absent from work for 3 days this week with ibs a condition,which i have been diagnosed with for over 20 yrs.my line manager phoned me today,asking how i was,and i told him my ibs had flared up,and i thought it was work stress related due to xmas pressure.i said i am seeing my doctor tomorrow.he asked permission to refer me to ATOS.i gave permission,and he ended the conversation saying take care.but now im thinking why is he referring me now.im not even on a stage 1 yet,although i will now have been off sick for more than 4 occasions,but 2 of those were with ibs.at my last stage interview,my line manager said he would not issue a stage 1 this time ,but even if i was off sick with ibs in the future,he may issue a stage 1.is he right or under dda should he not count my ibs absence. I would like advice on what i should now say to atos.

Unfortunately he has ticked the boxes. Under the rules for DDA absence periods can be either counted or not, at the discretion of the Manager, however to actually count them your manager has to inform you that subsequent absence resulting from the condition may be counted - they have done that so unfortunately they can count them.

What to say to ATOS - I would recommend the truth and if possible ask for a face to face interview rather than an over the phone consultation. This would help you present evidence from your own GP about how the condition affects you.

Some members say that ATOS are crap and will arse you around - I would say that if this is the case you would only exacerbate the problems they cause if you don't give them the full details of your condition or if you exaggerate it.

Let them issue you with a stage warning,the plebs will tell you that there are no appeals against either a stage 1 or 2 okay be like that then ......put in a grievance though..put on it that as your condition is ongoing and likely to cause you to have possibly more time off in the future that you feel that it's putting you at a disadvantage and that any future IBS related illness should be discounted as part of a reasonable adjustment..don't let them bullshit you about not having to make any.

Then if heaven forbid you get to a stage 3 you have a written paper trail.

i was going to go on a stage 2 and because i have an atos referal i went back to stage 1.
just have evidence to back up your case, you should be ok.
