UPDATED - Returned to sender with no address, belfast?

Post by tatts84 »

I recently posted a letter to scotland by recorded delivery. He claims the postman didn't leave a card so he failed to collect it. The tracking was showing being returned to sender for about a week but now it says:
A delivery was attempted for your item with reference BR**********GB in UNKNOWN before 09:29 on 01/12/10. Your item is now being returned to sender.

I believe it as been sent to belfast as there was no return address on it or in it (the first time i was in a rush and forgot to put it on, typical) anyway i have tried the 0845 number and i'm getting nowhere, it's just automated and i can't actually speak to anyone. The items have a great value to me and i want to sort it asap but i don't know how?

Is there anything inside the letter that has your name & address on?
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Sadly no, i know it's half my fault but you live and learn. I'm still kicking myself.

***UPDATE*** - Twitter does work.

I contacted royal mail on twitter and they tracked the parcel for me, it was delivered in belfast the day before they replied to me. They informed me my letter arrived opened and with no contents. (there was over £100 worth of stamps in there including a penny black). I don't believe it to be accidental as it was a board backed envolope which was sealed with strong parcel tape.

Is there anything i can do about this? the receiver never got the package as he was never left a 'sorry you where out' card.

I never sent it by special delivery as it is a waste of time, i have had special delivery go missing in the past and one arrive damaged, when ever i make a claim (with all relevant evidence) all i get back is a letter of appology and a book of 1st class stamps. One lost special delivery item was a £250 iphone so great compensation there. My turntables also went missing (don't know how as each box was quite large and weighed 15KG) and even though i paid for extra insurance, yet again i only got a book of stamps and lost £400.

When you send something by special delivery they ask you the value of the item and you are insured against loss to that value. There is NO WAY you should have just been given a book of stamps.
The recorded delivery insurance is a lot less and you will be lucky to get much more than a book of stamps.

You will have to go down the road that it has been opened and stolen while in royal mail care so a royal mail employee probably has stolen your item, they might be willing to pay out more than an item just getting damaged if you accuse them of employing thieves.
