Probably saw that film with Michael Caine and Sylvester Stalone and thought it was based on fact.

The same in my office, in a way i hope they do not do this, but like you say the irony is there for all to see
i do sunday collections in a 5-6 week rotation a 4 hr shift and theres a couple of strike breakers on there but in my office the majority are supporting the union in its fight as the sunday collections will be for the chop next and as it only affects a relatively small number of people they prob wont get much resistance to from my office in losing these shifts

Yes, they only need to give 4 weeks notice. They did that my mail centre last month for all early SA's, but after the Union took it up, they decided to lapse any that became vacant, and cut one hour off any SA that was more than 3 hours.

We have a lot of Sunday Duties (same as SA) at Mount Pleasant, as we are the concentration office for all the London Sunday collections, and Inward Foreign Mail is arriving from Heathrow 24/7. I don't see how they could stop Sunday O/T here, but if they did it would hit a lot of people financially, including myself, as it is usually the only O/T I do.

And TBT the film Was Escape to victory... Loads of pro footballers on it and the Great Sir Bobby Moore....There's quite a few managers that have watched too many films !, best one was a shift manager chasing armed robbers who had ram raided the locker. The best one was a SM saying why shouldn't posties stay on thier feet for more than 3 1-2 hrs ?, lollipop ladies do ??!!! . They don't like this " 100% one-sided pro-strike site " , QUOTES " a vile forum that I can't bring myself to mention it's name" , " reminiscent of a skinhead's reunion" " distinctly anti-gay" , " hatred for management to the exclusion of everything else" , " intellectual property theft" < " "hotbed of 70's militarism " " bad attitude towards customers , biting the hand that feeds them " DOM'S QUOTES " hope you can afford your Socalist Worker's party subscriptions out of your giros " " there's a desire to break that 70's Dinosaur Union of yours like never before " , " It was nice knowing you guys anyway , goodbye", " You won't be able to afford your broadband subscriptions after this strike, the ballifs won't give a stuff about your principles when your'e thrown out on the street", " , " Any slight against strike-breakers and you'll find yourself sharing a cell with hairy knuckled people who'll seranade you to sleep !" , "ALAN is not taking your strike seriously as you expect the govt to bail you out & you won't accept reality + modernisation "

Stopping Sun & B/H collections completely is further concrete proof that Royal Mail don't give two sh*ts bout customer service. I agree that out here in rural Norfolk is does't make sense to clear a couple of letters out of a box from tiny villages, but surely to limit the service to just collecting from main towns just the delivery office and main post office boxes would offer a service still. I mean if i had a letter on Sat evening I desperately wanted to be somewhere for Mon I wouldn't have a problem jumping in my car and travelling 8 miles to my nearest town to post it. But to scrap the service completely is just silly, surely a skeleton collection would be better.. Anyone?? :hmmmm

I don't want to appear out of step but Sunday collections are a waste of resources - there is little point in collecting mail from any boxes and even less point in opening mail centres for sorting. There is no point being the good guy in this dispute and hanging on to every scrappy little duty for the sake of it - what there is point in is fighting for recompense for the amounts saved throughout and add it too the pot.

Sorry mate but that is bollox.

We collect around 9-12 full bags of stamped mail every sunday in a small town that my friend is not a waste of resource.
That mail would be processed and delivered the next working day so that is building in another failure making the service worst.

That is a good point,i guess almost 100% of Sunday work must be paid on pressure o/t or S/A,so as you say bung it in the kitty.

But it wouldn't be a failure if there wasn't a collection! 12 bags of mail hardly constitutes a reason for continuing the service and stamped mail is not the breadwinner of this service. We do need to modernise and by holding on to outdated methods is negative - Good Friday delivery - gone, Christmas Day delivery - gone. Obviously those who profit by the Sunday duty will feel aggrieved but lets' move on.

Of course its a failure its been posted either late on saturday or on sunday and will not be delivered the next day thats a failure.
I DO NOT DO A SUNDAY COLLECTION AND I DO NOT REALLY CARE if they stay or go but i am pointing out the fact that WE try to provide a service one that is being eroded each and every time we accept changes like this.
Anyway 12 bags of mail from 17 boxes including 2 BO's from just Welwyn Garden City is quite a bit of mail. Add that to the whole country then your talking about hundreds of thousands of items of post.
When you talk about good friday ask yourself this why was the delivery stopped? The same amount of mail is there nothing has changed its purely a money saving issue just like the ones we are striking against.... or should be just lay down and accept them as we need to MODERNISE?
