Wearing Shorts

Having worn shorts (not the same pair) for 4 years every working day come rain or shine today the Dom decided too send me home to change stating' no more shorts to be worn until April'.
I have now been informed by our H&S rep that this is the case and i must comply
Anyone else been told the same any thoughts on having our right to wear Royal Mail issue shorts every day taken away.

Just heard of mate in Huntingdon DO who has been wearing shorts for years, sent home this week to change in to long trousers ! They quoted H&S as the reason !!

A range of uniform is provided to cover all conditions. Surely as 'grown ups' we are able to decide for ourselves what items to wear to achieve the best level of comfort for ourselves ? Are we now to be told to wear waterproofs it it rains, told to take 'off' fleece tops if it is too warm ? Not happy if we are told we cannot wear shorts between eg: Oct - Apr !!!!

Grown ups as you say would be responsible, wearing shorts in the worst winter conditions is not, i'm not one to back managment at the best of times but here i can not argue.

seems some of our members will do anything to say look at me, look how great i am, from riding a bike in snow to wearing shorts in minus 10, idiots the lot of you.

oh for god sake, next week professional footballers will have to play in trousers too because of health and safety. I wear my shorts and if my dom sends me home I will be staying home with stress, I find shorts most comfortable and at times warmer than trousers because they dont get cold on your legs when they rub, or wet and damp.

I think it should be a personal choice and as long as the uniform worn is the one provided then people, within reason, should be allowed to wear shorts when and where they want. I had 6 weeks in Newfoundland where temperatures were -15c and the locals wore shorts especially if they were doing heavy work. The reason why is because if you sweat too much because you have a of of layers this can be as dangerous as not being dressed up enough - why because if you sweat the sweat then freezes and lowers your core temperature making you more likely to suffer hypothermia. Of course when id dips below -25c then matters change drastically as at this temperature you can die of exposure very quickly and exposed skin is liable to freeze, and even worse stick to metal if you touch it by accident.

I personally would not wear shorts in these conditions but I don't see why people should be, as long as they are properly attired for the conditions. Thermal under wear, hat, warm coat, warm and dry socks etc. As I think it should be a personal choice if anyone is really offended and wanted to take it further you could start with a grievance and take it all they way to the Human Rights court (although that would be tad OTT)

Going sick with stress because your manager wants you to keep warm in the coldest part of the year, the part of the year when people have died in this country in the cold (yes two people have been found dead in thier garden)

I can here it now, "ATOS origin here, why are you off sick with stress? well my manager bullied me into wearing trousers to keep warm as it's really cold outside"

I hate them as well, loudest in the Canteen quiet as a mouse in meeting or briefings. Then when they get caught doing something wrong or against CWU advice they blame the Union - go figure.

I'm a shorts wearing in the summer, but not brave enough to do it in winter. But keeping in mind we're walking around with wet trousers and cold legs, those in shorts only have cold legs. Does it really matter? Surely it should be their choice as to what to wear?
