Internet Stamps Group Stamps Disapproval for Royal Mail
For Immediate Release
FOLKESTONE, Kent United Kingdom/EWORLDWIRE/Aug. 2, 2007 --- Collectors across the U.K. are protesting against the number of stamps issued by Royal Mail. An online petition is attracting huge interest.
"Royal Mail's issue policy of bleeding us dry is effectively killing the collection of modern stamps," argues collector Kevin Fisher, while fellow collector Gareth Cox adds, "Great Britain is like a Third World Country, where the stamps are produced like confetti."
The petition was started by Tony Buckingham, a leading name in the trade who won the prestigious Roland Hill award for his contribution to Philately. This is not the first time Buckingham has challenged Royal Mail after successfully taking them to the Office of Fair Trading.
With three stamp issues in July 2007 alone, many collectors are finding increasing pressure to keep up. On top of this, 15 issues have already been announced for 2008, a number likely to rise dramatically with late additions and miniature sheets.
Most of these stamps will never be seen by the general public and are unavailable at post offices.
"The phrase, 'killing the golden goose,' springs to mind," says Tony Buckingham. "Royal Mail is exploiting collectors for profit by issuing more and more stamps - most of which will never be used for postage. People may wish children spent more time on healthy, old-fashioned hobbies like stamp collecting, but there is no way most kids could afford to keep up, even with the lure of trendy stamps featuring Harry Potter. I hope we can get thousands of signatures. It is the only way to make Royal Mail see sense."
David Walker, head of the Philatelic Sector at Royal Mail, believes that collectors want more, not fewer stamps issues.
The petition, currently at 500 names, can be found at 'http://www.buckinghamcovers.com' and is running until November, 2007.
Collectors without Internet access wanting to add their view should write to:

Are Royal Mail doing any commemorative stamps with Leighton & Crozier on ? , Leighton in his Morris dancing outfit ? , Leighton with his halo pictured church bell ringing ? , services to the fashion industry with his pink shirt? , A Tony B-Liar stamp or one with Darling & Byers on ? to fleece the Philatelists !, thought Leighton wasn't interested in Joe Public & stamped mail , they only post 4 items a year , more top 100 junk mail companies plagueing everyone with rubbish and leaflets is his "way forward".
