UK Mail delivers but Christmas is key

LONDON (SHARECAST) - UK Mail posted a higher profit at the half-year stage as rising revenues from mail and parcels offset a decline in pallet delivery sales.

The express delivery group saw pre-tax profits in the six months to September 30 rise by 4.8% from the same period the previous year to £7.4m.

Revenues were up by 1.3% to £190.7m. Mail revenues climbed by 1.5% to £85.9 and parcel revenues rose by 1.3% to £81m.

The courier business’s revenues rose by 9.3% to £9.5m, while revenues from the pallets division, which has strong exposure to the UK economy, fell by 4.2% to £14.3m.

‘As always, market conditions for the balance of the year remain hard to predict and the final three months of the calendar year represent the key trading period for our business,’ chief executive Guy Buswell said.
