Could Wales & Scotland stop Privatisation ?

Post by Brainache »

Just a thought -
Wales and Scotland have most to lose when Universal Post is scrapped two minutes after Privatisation (all the no profit rural deliveries ). Could their assemblies stop it happening ?

No, the respective assemblies can't do anything about nationally owned institutions, because they belong to the National Government, not to local "super councils", however much they like to perceive themselves as otherwise, only in an independent Wales and Scotland can they take control of their respective services on their territory.

Nice thought tho, especially these countries will be most affected by the proposed reduction in the USO.

They can however set up their own postal service, after all the market is now opened to everybody who wants to set up their own delivery services.

Well they might set up their own Postal Service but I rather think they would prefer someone else to foot the bill.

Exactly dv..i somehow doubt you will see the Scottish Goverment volunteering to foot the bill for the most expensive USO in the entire country.

Aye and there's the rub really. In order for the Welsh and Scottish assemblies to pay for a postal service it would be most unlikely that they could afford the USO - so they would really be between a rock and a hard place - finance your own abbreviated service OR put up with a privatised abbreviated service.
