Deal?
Now now Clash, that's twice in your recent posts you've had to retreat to mere insults.
Don't tell me that well of sparkling repartee has run dry, and this is all that's left?
Ah well, there's always those reworded songs, I suppose... :whistle

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Sorry Teebs.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Working hard seems to "distress" quite a few in RM :whistle and maybe that's why some are quick to give it the old "oh, I'm so stressed" routine..
:whistle
Oh, so all the Posties who end up seeing Councillors, Psychiatrists, The Crisis Team, or worse. Are just doing so to avoid working hard? :no no  :arrrghhh :Sick

Come back, when you have a proper response. Instead of just kicking those who're already down. :no no

Not in the post Andy replied to you didn't. But ....................

No-one dies, loses millions of pounds, flies planes, cuts diamonds, teaches a class of teenagers, defuses bombs, sells to targets or many other jobs involving stress, it's putting admail through front doors, pure and simple.

So the point remains, if people find this work stressful, how would they get on with a job which really was stressful?

You're getting desparate now.

I said-
Working hard seems to "distress" quite a few in RM

which doesn't specify any particular RM staff group as being more or less hard-working, but the original thread was about stress and posties succumbing to it (allegedly).

I'm sure you'd like to make the unintended connection to prove how sharp you are, but you'll just have to remain disappointed.... :cuppa

I wasn't disappointed you used semantics which is what I fully expected.

So now your personal stress study includes all groups within Royal Mail.
When will your study be published?...i'm looking forward to reading it.
When do you find the time to tinker with the machines Tman?

Take it from someone with personal experience. Posties DO succumb to stress, and eventually, depression too. And ill-informed comments, from people who CLAIM, that it's not really happening. Only makes it worse for the victims, when they read them!

It's important for you to realise, that people suffering from depression and (to a lesser extent) stress, can't help taking criticisms out of proportion. It's a symptom of the illness. Please THINK about the potential consequences of your dismissive attitude to these serious ailments, to their sufferers in the future.

Although risking another of Mr T's all-to-regular cries of "semantics" again, I don't recall claiming posties not really having stress or depression, or being "dismissive" towards those serious ailments either.
Perhaps you should read back over the thread?

Here you go Tman.

Alhough this is an example of you being dismissive of the causes, rather than the conditions. It's exactly the attitude that many face, when asking or help at work. And reading it on here, just makes it worse. :hmmmm

Perhaps some posters here have mistaken pressure and stress.

And perhaps some more have confused "stress" with "working hard".
To go home tired is no indication of stress at work, and there's nothing inherently stressful about delivering mail.

This one is making light of the conitions, and claiming that the sufferers are just faking it, becase they're afraid of working hard. I know it was meant to be a joke, and that it was just a play on words. But taking such a serious ailment so lightly, is at best unhelpful, more likley very harmful. :hmmmm :no no

And finally. Have a look at your previous post! :arrrghhh :no no Here's a quote from it:
but the original thread was about stress and posties succumbing to it (allegedly).

Note the word allegedly. Although not all cases are proven. There are plenty which have been. :arrrghhh :no no :arrrghhh

You've just said more of the same.

RM workers may well have stress, feel pressurised or be depressed just like any other section of the population, but my point is that is likely to be due to other factors than, or in addition to, being an RM employee.
I haven't heard about the many thousands of PO workers who would have been medically retired through stress over the years, if it was.... :hmmmm
Cut it any way you like, but as has been said before, there's nothing inherently stressful about being a postie as opposed to being a pilot/salesman/fireman/etc/etc which are stressful jobs by thier very nature.

And this-
And perhaps some more have confused "stress" with "working hard".

This one is making light of the conitions, and claiming that the sufferers are just faking it, becase they're afraid of working hard.
is also where you have the wrong end of the stick. It's not making light of anything, but an observation that many people like to cry the old cliche "I'm under so much stress today" when what they really mean is they're working hard or are very busy, and I'm sure you appreciate that there's a big difference. Not accusing anyone of faking anything, rather just following on from TBT's point (which I notice you conveniently forgot to requote..) re pressure and stress.

Are you deliberately trying to ignore the facts here?
The JOB of being a postie isn't what's stressful. It's the way we're often treated, and the attitudes we have to deal with.

Having said that. You're right about one thing: There's invariably more than one cause. But the initial cause, can sometimes BE work (it was in my case). And even if it isn't. It can make a bad situation far worse.
