That is true B, but then I'm not paid to manage union affairs nor to plan a strategy. But it helps if your first port of call is - WHAT'S IN IT FOR OUR MEMBERS, which I fear is way down the list in recent years.

Well, not idle, rich, not rich but I suppose I could be called comfortably off in modern terms, the reason for that is when I pay someone to do something I expect to get it, if I don't I stop paying for it.

Well some will vote for - merely to ensure the term hypocrite couldn't be subscribed to their principles - labour having first run with the ball - Alan Johnson as I recall didn't oppose it.

The CWU should concentrate on the main stream media - bombard them with reasoned arguments. I mean, how is the privatised company to be policed and regulated in terms of USO and price structure - put forward alternative plans which would make a profit once the pension fund was properly funded

Surely the CWU has a think tank.............................and please don't tell me we know someone who is involved in that.

But i'm not B and if you're truthful with yourself.....you are not interested in mine...unless it impacts on yours.
That's fine by me,it's actually one of the true founding principles of the trade union movement and it's honest...not wrapped up in spin and false promises.Don't please, do a Tman and start quoting out of context...there was a lot more to my post than the part you choose to repeat.
A union basher ...after 20years of membership of multiple trade union organisations...i hardly think so but mistakes have been made and i certainly don't believe in blind faith...if that makes me a union basher then so be it.
I have never encouraged anyone either on here or in the real world to leave the union....quite the opposite.

equally that the government will only give a guarantee of past serivice. It will be up to the new owners or owener whether they want to continue with a care scheme which they contribute to or not.

Thats all they gave with BT. Not 100% on this (only heard a snipet on the news) i think the goverment lost their case with the BT scheme trustees today, and that the judgement was that they have a liability even for people who joined after privitsation.

So the issue of who owes the company does matter , and yes by all means slag off the union but its only the union which will be leading the campaign not the posters off here or anyone else

Btw I'm not slaging off the union just for the hell of it. There are genuine reasons!

There was a time when our T&Cs were linked but not now.
Now yours have no effect on mine and mine on yours...i didn't make it that way or want it that way but that is how it is.
There are hundreds of different offices with hundreds of different T&Cs all around this country so who's T&Cs are you fighting for?
I am fighting for mine and those around me...it sounds selfish but it's far more practical and you're much less likely to look foolish...been there got the T-shirt.
I'll leave you with this quote from a senior(paid for by ALL our subs) union official talking about his particular patch...

I haven't left the union...i haven't advocated leaving the union so why would i have personal pay negotiations..

I have simply suggested that since the direction of the union is towards local agreements...and the senior union officials positively beam with pride if their particular members have better T&Cs than neighbouring areas maybe some areas should take a leaf from these "strong" areas and start looking after themselves and that's what i/we intend to do...and why unfortunately your T&Cs matter little to me.
As i said before i didn't make it this way or indeed want it this way but wishing it was different doesn't change anything.

Do you seriously believe there is any other option?...not dreams about changing the union from the inside surely...
I'm talking about protecting members today, tomorrow and next week not in some far off alternate reality.
