Royal Mail to be privatised
Heard on the news that plans will go ahead to privatise Royal Mail. Looks like it will be definite, could be a foreign interest as well. Now we know what all the streamlining was about, anyone know how this will affect us. I know there has been a lot of speculation but with this new certainty is there going to be wholesalr change, are wages about to take a nosedive.

Re: Royal Mail to be privatised
I suppose it was inevitable with all the cuts, falsified mail counts, vastly exaggerated projected figures across the board to make it a viable proposition, and some have bitten. I would say they were mugs but they can only go by the figures. With such a major investment you would expect an interested party would infiltrate the ranks of the delivery staff to get a more realistic idea of whats going on.

Just to be a bit controversial...
We are in this s**t after a lifetime of government ownership.
Would private investment really make it worse?

Re: Royal Mail to be privatised
I think the s**t started to hit the fan when RM decided to sell up and started making changes to give the impression that it was doing well with figures well up (the advent of absorption, hours cut, job losses, part time contracts etc). This has to have been in the pipeline for a couple of years culminating in the mess we have now!theboropostie wrote:Just to be a bit controversial...

Looks like the government are going to foot the pension bill to make it viable. Post employees to keep a 10% stake as well.
