Hypothetical question regarding the pension

Post by Broxi51 »

I must admit to being very naive regarding the pension. I read about an 8-10 billion pound deficit which sounds quite alarming
but I also read about RM agreeing with the government to pay back this deficit over 38 years which would mean
not lumbering the deficit onto the tax paying public if/when they push privatisation through.
I also read that the Government want to saddle the deficit onto the public so that they can get their
greedy hands on the pension assets and this is where my question relates to.

If they sell us off and dump the deficit to get the assets could we as posties all combined ask for our payments plus any
extra that would be due to be returned to us. I realise that we would lose a bl**dy lot of money by doing this but then
so would cameron & clegg if they had to return most of the assets to us and that would make their plan redundant
since that would be the major reason, as far as I can see, for them privatising us.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

You could ask but it wouldn't do you any good! When you signed up for the pension you agreed to lock up that money until retirement or at least until age 55.

You cannot withdraw your contributions after more than 2 years in the pension plan.

I transferred some in from my old workplace pension,i'm guessing if you left you could do the same to your new company pension.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Be very careful about transerring your pension to another scheme, especially if you would currently get part of it at 60. Most schemes, even local government schemes, don't pay out until 65.

Just skip to the last sentence,
Thats the worrying thing for me.

For the company to have a chance of finding a buyer, taxpayers will be forced to take on Royal Mail’s £8billion pension fund deficit.

In a highly unusual move, it plans to sell the fund’s £26billion of assets, but Mr Cable insisted that it is not ‘acquiring some sort of goldmine’ because it will also take on liabilities of £34billion.

Basically, The Government is going to get an interest free Loan at our expense! And I don't trust them to keep their word ;liar

Transferring out will be the worst financial decision you ever make.
