CENTRAL Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe this week revealed he is against plans to privatise Royal Mail.
The Labour backbencher said he “always felt it was a privatisation too far” and pledged to support the Communications Workers Union’s Keep Post Public Coalition.
He has written to Business Secretary Vince Cable with his concerns.
He added: “It is my worry and indeed a worry to many that privatisation will leads to widespread closure of Post Offices, jeopardise the uniform tariff and universal service for letters and lead to a deterioration of services.
“Royal Mail is experiencing a period of prolonged stability for the first time in a decade. The upheaval of a sell-off would undo the good work that has already been done.”
Mr Donohoe was previously criticised by the SNP for failing to sign an Early Day Motion opposing privatisation while Labour were in power.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I was under the impression that when New Labour were in power, they did Royal Mail a hell of a lot of damage. Libralising and opening up our mail market at least five years before the competition abroad. Setting up Postcomm who allowed our competition to cherry pick all the profitable contracts and leave us with the scrapes. All the Con-Dems are doing is putting the final touches to what Labour worked so hard to achieve.
