information on dog attack

Hi I joined tonight to see if i could find any information on what royal mail policies are for a postal worker getting bitten by a dog.. This happened to me last week and left me with four bites and what is being discribed as post traumatic shock syndrome.. the dog that attacked me is an american bull dog, big and vicious.. i am of work at the moment, and have been put in touch with counsolling services.. and im awaiting contact with atos... I cant bear the thought of going out at the moment let alone going back to work and the fear of going back out on my postal walk terrifies me.. this is the second time i have been attacked and bitten in just over a year... My partner is a postie in the same depot as myself.. and we have been horrified that our delivery manager is being quite insistant that the mail still gets delivered to the block of flats that the dog is in.. the dog is still with the owner until the dog warden can get a court order to have the dog taken away.. this can take up to 3 months... the dog owner was also very abusive to me and has no remorse at all.. I would like all the information I can get on time off for such.. and policies on delivering mail to a place were a dangerous dog that has already attacked a member of staff.. still roams..

i was not bitten but the dog was very agressive and i was concerened i would be bitten, i had to use my bag to stop being bit, finally owner got dog, no remorse and not even a sorry or acknowledgement that i was there. i informed my line manager and a letter was sent the next day, i told my manager that i had a recorded for them and he said, if the dog is just behind the door ask for them to put it away safe if they did not to walk straight away , and then phone him and he would come out and see them.
our manager is very good when it comes to dogs, and has stated that we dont go into gardens if a dog is out, even if it seems friendly

Your manager is an unfeeling stupid individual that does not understand even RM own policy.

1. If you feel unsafe you do not have to enter a property to deliver the mail.

4. Even RM have a page about suspending the USO and it states

Where access to an address is unsafe for our staff due to short-term health & safety issues. This may include instances where we believe our postmen or women are at risk from attack by people, or dogs, or other animals.

5. Royal Mail do have a policy for dog attacks its called - Royal Mail Dog Attack Policy ask your manager/union rep for an electronic copy.
