Spate of redundancies?

Do you think we might see a spate of redundancies before the criteria for offering it changes next month? From a business point of view the current system of offering it to the older members of staff who are probably struggling with the extra workload rather than offering it to guys who have racked up the seniority, but are still relatively young, makes far more sense. Getting rid of someone who is 58 with just a few years service would be cheaper and more sensible (yes,I know RM don't do sensible!) than getting rid of a 40 year old with 20+ years service.

There are a lot of people taking EVR/VR this month in my MC, before the new (seniority) and compensation terms start on 1 October.
But I doubt if there will be any spate of new EVR/VR offers in the next two weeks, as it is too late to process them before 1 October.

can anyone tell me how the redundances terms change for me.last time i was offered maximum 104 weeks pay.
i am 49 with 30 service.will we still be keeping the same deal or is it going to be less.

Not a prayer in my office, there are loads of vacant duties and 20-odd had to be covered on OT last week.

Why would RM consider paying redundancy, they will just keep piling on the work and managers will keep piling on the pressure, they know they can get rid of people on the cheap that way, as people will either leave, or drop dead trying to cope.

He certaintly wont be better off...I was talking to a guy in my old office ( I had IHR last year ) who is coming up to 61 with nearly 45 years in.. If he doesnt get out by the end of Sept , he is screwed....The delivery office has vacancies so not EVR/TMA can be given unless staff want a transfer from the Mail Centre...That doesnt happen anymore..
Who in their right mind with go for 6 months pay ? i can see compulsory redundancies being forced in the next couple of years...

I do hope that RM will be fair to both management and the coal face employees when it comes to TMA . It was reported last week that 2000 middle management staff are likely to face redundancy with 2 years pay..

I do hope this is not true.The terms that management should get is 6 months pay under the RM new policy, unless of course their on fixed term contract where normal employment law would told the status quo...

Say they are on £30,000 each x 2 = £60,0000 x 2000 That's hell a lot of money!

I read each manager was in the £40,000 pay bracket, so each would walk away with £80,000. That's £1.6m, and they only want to give the foot soldiers six months pay which is approx 10,000.
That sums up exactly what the RM think of us!
