Labour leadership candidate Ed Balls is to visit a number of post offices in the coming week, pledging his support to keeping the Royal Mail publicly owned.
The shadow education secretary will launch his support in Glasgow on Saturday, followed by Durham on Sunday, Burnley on Monday, Wolverhampton on Wednesday and other parts of the country later in the week.
John Brown, Scotland regional secretary of the Communication Workers Union, said: "We're very happy that Ed is joining us in this campaign to keep the post public. We've got a first-class service and need the public and politicians to stand up for the Royal Mail.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

A bit late for Labour to go back to their former position of wanting us to stay in Public Hands isn't it? I remember campaining and lobbying MP'S in the 1990's against privatisation when we had the likes of Robin Cook on our side-now there was a true man of principle -Balls and his ilk are only trying to get support for their own ends-as they proved they can't be trusted in Government!
Having said that it is a different world now and if part privatisation is the only realistic option to ensure the future of Royal Mail and solve the Pension crisis , then so be it! There is no public money left in the pot , that's obvious , and fighting the old battle about the Pension Holidays taken all those years ago is futile , that money has long gone !
Alan Johnson was someone I respected when he was at the helm of the CWU and he has always been honest and frank with his views even if they are unpopular these days -he reckoned Hayes and Ward should have reached agreement with Mandelson on the issue last year , now instead they will have to battle against the Tories and I don't suppose the terms they offer will be as good as the former!

How much more credible would a campaign have been if the CWU hadn't backed the least likely candidate to become leader of the Labour Party 
Is there no end to the poor quality of decision making at the highest level.
It would have been better if the CWU had severed the ties to the labour party and be seen by the public to be an independent organisation, and I do say by the public, those in the employ of RM know whose pocket they are really in.
It will be interesting to see exactly what stance they will take when RM make the case for privatisation, which judging by the rumours of penury and claims of being unable to pay loans etc etc etc, the game has already begun - mind you the CWU & Ed Balls are making a promising start in defence by starting the campaign in Lon..................no sorry it's Burnley...........yep Burnley and for those of you south of Watford it is in Lancashire.
