KEEP THE POST PUBLIC COALITION - CAMPAIGN INITIATIVES

As part of our ongoing campaign to Keep The Post Public, the following two initiatives can be added to those events previously published:

1. A postcard campaign will be launched to engage the public and our members in the key 71 constituencies. This has been launched after discussion with the Regional Secretaries and will be aimed at individual MP's in the target constituencies. The postcard can become a focal point in stalls, events and at all opportunities that Branches have the opportunity to campaign publicly. The postcard will be issued to Branches shortly.
2. We have an opportunity to get good publicity and enhance public awareness through a number of public events. Ed Balls, CWU's nominee for Labour leader has agreed to campaign at a number of Post Offices as part of our campaign. This provides CWU with the opportunity to take advantage of his profile and of the media interest in the Labour leadership election to promote opposition to the privatisation of Royal Mail. The events will fit in with Ed's diary but will include a campaign event outside of post offices in a number of locations across the UK. Details of the events will be published shortly and Regional Secretaries will liaise with Branches to organise suitable venues and help with organisation. This should be seen as a one-off deviation from the focus of the campaign on the 71 key marginal constituencies but we can not miss out on raising the profile of the campaign in this way. In addition, it provides the opportunity to highlight a key strand of the campaign, the danger to Post Offices from privatisation and separation of Royal Mail from the network.
This is a key area in appealing to Conservative and Liberal MP's and supporters. Of course, the presence of a leadership candidate and shadow Secretary of State is a huge boost for the campaign. These events will also provide an opportunity for members and branches who don't have key constituencies in their areas.

These are further steps in our campaign and it is crucial that branches support these initiatives along with those previously announced. Regions and branches should be continuing with the work to build a coalition of opposition to the impending privatisation bill.

A great fight by the Union over the last couple of years to keep us in public ownership but unfortunately i don't think they are going to stop it this time.
