lost recorded delivery

Post by bolton1969 »

I have sent a recorded delivery that has not arrived at its destination. It was sent 4 weeks ago with a return address on it.It had £30 worth of vouchers inside.

I have lost the receipt, but know what time and which main post office it was sent from. The item was scnned at the post office. Is there any way royalmail will be able to trace the item from there database with that information.

cheers

Yes if you ring Customer Care Within UK - 08457 740 740

Textfone 08456 000 606

8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday.
8am - 1pm on Saturdays

They will be able to view the full track and trace history rather than just the single line web page that you have access to. They will also be able to advise on claims and if I remember correctly recorded is covered up to £41 so you should be ok.

If it was recorded delivery then there won't be any track and trace available for it between the PO branch and the delivery office only special delivery and tracked get scanned throughout the system. bolton1969, what colour was the barcode label, was it orange (recorded delivery) or silver (special delivery)?

The item was scanned at the post office.
Is that normal for a PO to do that? Didn't think they did.

Have pointed the PO guys to the thread.

It’s called Recorded Delivery. That’s what it is, recorded upon delivery. There will be no trace at the sending office, or throughout the item’s journey. Vouchers are the same as cash as far as we are concerned, and Special Delivery should have been used.

What do you expect for 74p?

Bolton,
The scan in the branch is only to get the item number on the receipt, for you to use when you want to look it up on line, and this only comes into effect after delivery when it is scanned as delivered. Up until then there is no record of item. Simply the name alone causes confusion as peoiple think its " recorded" along its journey....its not.
As for compensation, as BFO said, vouchers are counted as cash and therefore should have been sent special and you will not receive the full value of the item. Possibly a book of stamps?

One of the problems we have at the counter is people are not prepared to pay the £5.05 for special ( and therefore full protection) even when fully explained by the clerk, and opt for the 74p recorded and then complain if it goes missing. I would like to think all this was explained at the counter when you posted it!

Sorry but this is not true, I've sent many Recorded items recently as sales on ebay and they were scanned at the local post office. When I checked the tracking numbers on the RM website it does give a date and place it was posted at.

Our callers office also scans them when they kill off the uncollected ones. So sometimes there is a history but its not as full and complete as for tracked, prios or Internationals.

My local PO scans them when they're posted, starts the audit trail online. Well, on RM track and trace anyway. When I kill them off in the callers office (the not called for packets that is... although some customers... anyway...) I scan them to either return to sender or sent to RLB if there's no address.

If it hasn't been scanned as attempted delivery then it's either not arrived at the D.O. to be delivered, the postie hasn't obtained a signature or the office haven't scanned it back in as available for collection. If it's the latter, it may well still be sat there. Or, it could've been killed off and not scanned to the relevant code (RTS or RLB).

RLB also always have about a 4 week backlog for items so if it was sent there as not called for after a week, it could be another 4 weeks after that before RLB look at it. I think they scan it as received there as well though?

Anyhoo, if it had a return address on it, then it shouldn't have gone to RLB (unless the address was illegible for some reason such as rain or other damage).

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it's lost somewhere, you may never see it again, you may be lucky and it might just be admin errors meaning there's no audit trail. Either way, 15 working days, put in a claim with a form from the P.O. Unfortunately, I doubt you'll get the vouchers back, just stamps or the such like.
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

When you speak to Royal mail all they ever say is it should use special delivery but why should I the cost is a big diffence the staff at customer services just don't give a damm amd most of the time are very rude, I am going to write a letter of complaint but don't see it getting me very far, have other people have similar experirences?

Thanks

Nope I get all mine signed like a good little postie.

I frankly don't understand why people don't, someone has paid for it and RM should pay you overtime if you go over. If they don't even once then refuse overtime and advise your manager that you cannot complete. I know with the pressure its hard to do, but bite the bullet and after the first time it does get easier and the managers do accept it if you are straight with them.

Nope I get all mine signed like a good little postie.

Only wish all postmen got them signed for, my wife has her own online bussiness and sends everything recorded to stop things like chargebacks and customers saying they have not got the items when they have.

187 items posted between 27/8/10 until 17/9/10 22 items not signed for all different parts of the uk.

3 items saying return to sender but as yet no returns all items have return address on

some items taking over 10 days to get to there destation great service i think not.

royal mail needs to get a grip otherwise they will keep losing bussines and end up doing all the s**t while ups, fedex, ukmail, tnt and dhl take all there work all the cream.

exmaple of prices royal mail 2kgs up to 3kgs 1st class recorded £8.96 can take up to 10 days

uk mail 2kgs up to 25kgs cost £5.99 plus vat and fuel surcharge about £6.70 next day delivery mon -friday

ups £9.49 next day delivery the others are about the same.

royal mail special delivery over 2kgs will cost over £20.

ups anywhere in euorpe (eu) up to 10 kilos £32.99 90% will be delivered the next day. royal mail 2kgs up to 3kgs cost about £35 international signed for can take up to 15 days.

this is how real the comptition is.

before any postman has a go at me, i was a postman for 12 years left for 7 years then came back this year lasted 11 weeks then told them where to stick it so i know what its like for you lot.

All recordeds are now scanned at the PO when posted. The information also includes the postcode and house number that the item is going to. After that, there is no other update on the system until an attempted delivery has been made.

You will need the 13 digit barcode number for RM to make any sort of trace on the item.

An item is officially lost after 15 working days, but i'm not sure on the level of compensation you get for lost recorded items.
