Much worse...

Fire broke out in the canteens kitchen. No one was there when it happened because everyone was on the shop floor doing the usual ips, prepping frames etc. Alarm was raised, DOM came out of his office wondering what all the commotion was about...switches off the fire alarm...tells everyone to get back to work...and not to leave the office as someone must of accidently tripped the fire alarm.

Whoops! Not a smart move...health & safety guys are out the next day investigating on to what actually happened.

Well cow post under normal circumstances that would certainly constitute gross misconduct and reckless endangerment of life so....what exactly was the outcome?

It was my day off fortunately

Went in the next day and the story about the DOM not letting anybody leave the office was still a hot topic over a week or two.

Spoke to the woman that works in the canteen, and she had a lucky escape. She said if she didn't put out the fire when she did the whole place could of blown, because the gas pipe should be behind the cooker not beside it. She only recieved a minor burn to her hand, but could of been alot worse.

The DOM told her off later by not reporting it to him at the time of the accident...she couldn't be at two places at once as she was attending to her injury in the womans toilets.

EDIT: Not sure what the H&S guys said to the dom, or more to the point what he said to them, but he still has his job.
