Taking down bad guys is usually not recommended but workers in Korea's post offices are required to learn MMA techniques to take down would-be robbers
Civilians untrained in the fine art of self-defense are usually told to comply with bad guys and never try to take matters into their own hands. Go mano-a-mano with a robber? No, leave it to trained professionals like police officers and security guards. Of course, once in a while, a brave(?) civilian takes matters into her own hands -- and if by chance successful -- hailed a hero by the media. But that sort of thing is not recommended. More often, it'll probably get you killed, especially if you happen to be a 66-year-old woman built like a skeleton with the strength of a 10-year-old girl.
Government workers, in particular, have little reason to resist. After all, they have no stake in the matter -- it's not their business nor their money that is being stolen. But in Kora, it seems postal workers are being given double-duty as peaceful package handlers and MMA take-down artists.
Above, post office workers are captured practicing "techniques" for "handling robberies" yesterday at the Seoul Central Post Office in the central part of the city, JoongAng said. (We count at least 4 women)
Employees evidently took turns playing the role of a robber while the others attempted to "respond as they would in a real-life situation." (In real life, you just hand the robber all the free stamps he wants)
The paper said that "supervised by Korea Post, the drill is designed to help postal workers prepare for tense situations as the holiday season approaches." All post offices in Seoul and Incheon are required to train workers in such drills by July 30, it added.
