Police in Colombia have seized a World Cup trophy made out of cocaine.

Authorities in Bogota discovered the large replica of the coveted soccer tournament trophy during a routine search of a warehouse on the grounds of the airport.

The anti-drugs teams were searching the mail centre when they discovered the 36-centimetre tall, gold painted statue in a box being shipped out to Madrid in Spain.

Airports anti-drug chief Colonel Jose Piedrahita revealed that tests had confirmed the trophy was made from 11 kilos of cocaine and mixed with acetone or petrol.
