Dear Colleagues
Climate Solidarity E-Group
As you may already know, the CWU, along with 3 other trade unions NUT, PCS, UCU and a charity called COIN (Climate Outreach Information Network) have secured funding from Defra, to run a project called Climate Solidarity.
Climate Solidarity aims to set up a large number of action groups, which will choose from a menu of simple activities, designed to reduce waste, energy, carbon emissions and save money.
Topics include reducing food waste, reducing electricity usage, getting more miles per gallon from vehicles and simple DIY, to reduce home heating bills. It is estimated we waste as much as 25% of the food we buy, burn fuel in vehicles unnecessarily and spend as much as 20% more on home heating than we need to. Forming an action group is a great way to save money, as well as reducing the environmental impact of our lifestyles.
The newly elected Youth Advisory Committee, have decided to establish themselves as a Climate Solidarity e-group. The YAC will be choosing activities from the menu available and sharing their experiences and ideas via email, with the support of CWU Climate Solidarity project worker, Maeve Kennedy.
We would like to extend an invitation to all young members, but especially Branch Youth Officers, to be part of an e-group, and joining a group could prove to be a quick, easy way to un-pick bad habits and reduce bills at the same time. E-groups are open to all, so please feel free to distribute this invitation to as wide an audience as possible.
To join or set-up an e-group, or for more information, please contact Maeve Kennedy at mkennedy@cwu.org or 07590245269.
Yours sincerely,
Simon Sapper
Assistant Secretary
