Yes it was but Vince Cable did say recentlyRobertT wrote:I thought it was the previous government who said that!TrueBlueTerrier wrote: The governemnt have said they will take on the Pension Liability - along with the £20billion in assets and property that RMP has.
and IIRC it was Hooper's recommendation that the Government take on the Pension Liability. To me that reads as though VC and the coalition will take on the liability if that aids the sale."We believe that Richard Hooper's recommendations and analysis are still broadly valid today, but as our policy develops we want to be able to test it against current market conditions. Richard's in-depth knowledge and experience will enable us to take account of recent developments in the postal market."

If it were up to me, I would make all employees get same share of profit whether it is a part timer or a Dom. It sound nice, in theory but we need more details and information to make informed decision.
if the share of 8 weeks wages for profit that could be about 3 grand a year.
If Pension is a problem 25% of our wages profit should go to Pension fund.

Privitisation- bring it on
Privitisation - I was looking to leave but now I feel I may stay. If I'm staying, I may be I given a say over what happens over managers because to be honest I have seen the appalling way we have been treated by managers to get some bonus or 'up' by the higher managers. I think, even if this doesn't look as good as it seems, some sort of chance of feeling like I get an opportunity of working for the public instead of working for the 'I want a bonus ' or ' I want a quick way up to higher managerment regardless of anyone below me' people, might make it worth while. I have been cornered by spineless union members/reps who obviously don't have our interest at heart?

And all those extra paid day releases to attend board and strategy meetings, what % of my wages will be the max that I can opt for in preference shares to avoid income tax?

Re: Royal Mail WILL be sold off:John Lewis style
Guys i think your a bit misguided, why would a shop want to buy into a postal network with falling mail levels and more people switching to electronic use. The only thing guareteed when RM is privatised is a reduction of wages and new terms of condition. First year maybe ok. I meant to say reduction in hours.
Lets all look forward to working 10 hours split shifts, norm in other postal companies in uk. Not sure about TNT etc.
Getting privatised will not be good for staff it will be worse.

I've stood on picket lines in the pouring rain opposing privatisation of RM so dont dismiss this as NT type drivel. Heck, I was even there when we defeated Michael Heseltine's attempt at it.
But now I say "dont dismiss this idea out of hand". This actually could be to our advantage. the devil will be in the detail but it could be our best shot at saving RM as a public service. DSA has changed all the rules. The ground has shifted under our feet. The battleground has changed, we cant re-fight the old fight anymore. RM is becoming just a vehicle to service the private mail companies. If we get a proper say in the operation of RM, maybe we can negotiate a fair contract with the private companies without the regulator forcing an unfair deal on us.
If I was a CWU high-up, I'd be examining this proposal very closely indeed.
