Dog Bite this morning!

got bitten today on my right leg by an evil little terrior thing, rang the office after completion and gotta fill some report out tomorrow, whats the procedure for this, i gotta go to casualty later to get a tetanus.

Its health and safety stuff to log the accident and decide whether to suspend deliveries or not. They will ask you questions about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

1. Where you aware of a dog at the address before.
2. If you were was it in the Walk Log and was there a warning card. (if not why not)
3. Did you do a risk assessment on entering the property taking into account if the dog was a known hazard.
4. The may ask why you took the risk. For instance if the dog was a known hazard and the door was open, why did you enter the property.

Also its a good idea to log this as an industrial injury with the DWP. I would also take a picture of any injuries in case there is any question about the severity later on.

There is also a dog bite compensation scheme which if you are out of pocket and are a member of the CWU that your rep can help with, you should inform them anyway for their own records at a minimum.

ill check the log tomorrow, the dog usually runs away or is out the back, no doors appeared to be open but the back gate was, can i book my time at the hospital as overtime? lol, the bite aint bad like, but its the thought of what it could be carrying and having to wait in casualty for hours which is pxxing me off.

They'll also check that you were wearing RM issue foot wear! (and probably if you were wearing your hi-vis vest) I kid you not.

You can claim for time taken at A&E , transport costs , parking and pain and suffering. Get a claim form from your CWU Rep and take pictures of the bite. I got £750 for a small bite to my knee , it may take 6mnths to come through but as they say " were theres blame theres a claim "

TT more than likely it will be an ERICA report that you will have to fill out.

well i was their for 4 hours and had a tetanus and now got to take anti biotics for a week, it was 2 taxis but no receipts, do u think its worth a claim? its only miniscule and ill be back on duty tomorrow?

yes why not , you went to work without a dog bite and an injection and money in your pocket this morning and due to someone elses fault you have spent the day messing about at A&E and are a few quid down.

When I got bitten by a dog a few years ago(it let itself out of the front door!) I had to go up the hospital for injection/pills. Told the manager how long I spent up there etc and I wanted O/T for it. He said no because I completed the duty so I was'nt entitled to any.

Regardless of the fact that you will be back on duty tomorrow, do make sure you fully report the matter to the Police and require from them an incident reference number.

wow-you are lucky to have received compensation! If i knoew then what i know now, I'd be quite rich with all my doggie bites!
