Sounds Great to me 4 hours a week it must be a great place to work i think not, what a load of Sh1t who would come to work on a 4 hour contract, the ultimate flexable workforce you dont have to worry about the pension or sick payments as they only do 4 hours on contract; they may be doing 70 hours a week, week in week out but come time for leave sorry mate back on 4 hours pay as that is your contracted hours.

4 hour contracts
That's the way RM want's to go. Get rid of all the stroppy unionised full time staff and bring in people on minimum hour contracts who will be at their beck and call, scared to take time off sick (they won't be able to afford to be sick anyway), and with basically unpaid holiday entitlement. And of course they won't be getting much in the way of a pension.

re: Result of massive amounts of outward being lost
Downstream Access means that large amounts of outward mail is now done by competitors. The only way to make the Mail Centre/Processing part is to employ people for a short period of time during peak traffic, which is between 18:00-22:00. There isn't enough volume between 2pm-6pm to justify a full shift.
You may not agree with this, buts the current reality. Lots of Poles will be happy to do this and then going cleaning buildings during the night.

Shift mgrs are not allowed to make this work shecdy or docket because of too many failures on meter, so it was more AGs , the idea is to dilute the stroppy unionised full timers as someone put it .That factionalism has a lot to do with losing the 2003 strike ballot .
Welcome to the surreal world of mail centres !, that's been common practice for years . Treat 'em mean & keep 'em keen., Divide and Conquer!> I . on Inward they reduced the TC 40hr night shifts to 20hr evenings but the shift mgr was cute enough to say it's the full timers going to the Union , wanting to stitch the docket up amongst themselves ; get the CWU to run the Post Office for them. So that was deliberately done to put the area rep in a corner. There's a lot of bad feeling about the Union reps it's they sit on things , it's all docket & full timers , but there's even more about Royal Mail!..Bloke7 wrote:And what a massive saving they make on tax and national insurance on 4 hour contracts. Other than strikes, something more needs to be done to show this firm that they are pushing it too far now.

That's Asda stuff RM are planning , wonder where that "idea" came from . They know they'll get battered on Mon if they take out w/e collections & duties . Initially it was adopt the tory's clothes ,now it's be like them, to neutralize them & keep them out ; all about the papers.Gordon's one party state, many have been trots & tankies in thier youth, the policies change but the mentality stays the same. :lfo An antagonistic propoganda plant on *******l talked of untapped resources a while back.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:New Labour - every time I see that phrase I always read it as Neo Tory.blackadder wrote:remember girls the union is subbing the NEW LABOUR PARTY otherwise known as tories mark 2. and this load of s**t wana get rid of us.

our ex manager was offering 1 hour contracts to new entrants to cover sick and holidays
was trying to get one of them to join the union when he dropped this bombshell if hes not needed he gets paid a hr a week if then after say a month they bring him in then he had to work 4 hrs before earning any money as he had banked those hours
as this was brought in by exec action by our EX DUM we agree to ballot the office after reg stage 3 disagreement and the 1hr contracts were ripped up and our old DUM was moved to another office and the guy is now on a 20hr contract

re: History repeating itself
This country as especially London has survived on exploting low wage new immigrants. If you chart Mount Pleasant's history you will see recent immigrants end up running the place until the new wave come in.
They are happy until they assimilate and realise they can get higher wages, unionise, and then we find another foreign country to exploit.
C'est la vie
