Hello all,
On Tuesday 1st June I had to send my passport to London for a visa application.
I sent the passport and application by 1st class recorded signed for (Yes, I now know this was a stupid thing to do as it doesn't cover the cost of a replacement paspsort etc...my error)
According to the visa agency - the mail still hasn't arrived - the track and trace on the royal mail website states "Item ******** was posted at ***** on 01/06/10 and is being progressed through our network for delivery"
I checked the post office receipt and it would appear that the 2nd digit in the first part of the postcode is incorrect. Instead of a 1 I put 3, which according to google maps is 8 miles away from the address the letter should have been going.
Does anyone know what will likely happen now? Will my letter get sorted by the Royal Mail manually - if so how long could this take?. I did include my return address on the envelope.
I am going abroad to Turkey on Monday June 14th, but if I dont get my passport back I wont be able to go. Once again, I acknowledge this is a fault of mine and not the royal mail. The visa agency have said they will send my passport straight back to me if the get it (I didnt need the visa for the Turkey trip, it was for another one)
Thank you all for your help in advance

That sort of error in the postcode would most likely delay it only one or two days if the rest of the address is correct, and wisely putting your own address on the back makes it most unlikely that it will be lost. Good luck.

I can't see why the wrong postcode would delay your letter for more than 1 day, even if it was sent to the postcode it would be sent to the proper address manually via the missort run.
