Royal Mail Footwear

Hi, can anyone tell me if it's compulsory to wear Royal Mail footwear (in a sorting office)?

As far as I knew you didn't have to, but I'm not sure.

I recently got some of the CAT trainers, but I don't find them very comfortable and I don't find driving in them very safe.

Probably as a general rule steel-toe-cap shoes are required for in warehouse and yard areas. On a related note, anyone know why RM issue CAT trainers when they don't have steel-toe-caps?

Because they're for delivery and not for indoor work.

In my MC you have to wear steel toecapped shoes/boots on platforms, but you can wear your own footwear
in sorting areas as long as it is not too flimsy and completely covers your feet - ie not sandals.

If you are on driving duties you are supposed to wear RM footwear though.

That's funny, I've been issued various Royal Mail shoes in the past, such as the DM shoes, but I don't think they've ever had steel toe caps.

I used to wear my Royal Mail DM's when I went to pubs/clubs and the bouncers would sometimes check them to make sure they didn't have steel toe caps, and they were always satisfied that they didn't!

If you work anywhere near FLTs, Scuds, etc., then you should all have Safety Boots (toe caps). I'm not sure about other areas though. Personally, where I am, anyone not in the offices must wear Safety Boots. Even visitors.
