Labour MPs Joe Benton and Angela Smith Attacked by Dogs:

Veteran CWU supported Labour MP Joe Benton unable to attend his general election count after being attacked by a dog. Joe 77, who has been MP for Bootle since 1990, was attacked while canvassing. He held his Merseyside seat with an overwhelming majority with a 66.4% share of the vote and a 21,181 majority. Joe Benton was taken to Whiston Hospital after the dog attack incident. He had been pushing leaflets through the letterbox of a house in Gonville Road when he
was attacked. He had the tip of his finger bitten off and fell to the ground, hitting his head. The MP was treated at a specialist regional plastic surgery unit, where doctors said it was impossible to save the tip of the index finger of his right hand. Joe is said to be fine and making a full recovery.

Angela Smith MP for Penistone & Stockbridge was also bitten by as dog whilst pushing leaflets through the letterbox but received just minor injuries requiring A&E treatment. Angela comfortably retained her seat at the recent general election and has been the Number 1 back bench MP supporter of the CWU 'Bite-Back' Campaign. Angela successfully moved a 10 minute Rule Bill on Dangerous Dogs last July, lodged an EDM and successfully raised the matter of Dangerous Dogs at Prime Minister's question time, securing a meeting with the Prime Minister which took place at Westminster on 3rd Feb.

tory boy hahaha no, i'm not a blinkered working class lad that's all, its just i hate ALL politicians. we have had a s**t government for 13years and now we have another and so the cycle continues.

New Labour did very little for ordinary working people. They made it easier for the ignorant and unsuitable to become part of the 'shafting class' instead of improving the pay and conditions of workers. A lot of us want to do jobs where we are not required to stitch people up and the Labour Party was originally set up to give us a political voice. It has ended up supporting people who look down on workers.
