I'm a relatively fit mid 30's postie and I was on a walk today with 380 calls.......it is a hilly walk but I literally was exhausted at the end of it, well, after I'd done my 20 mins absorption as well! My point...........is someone going to have to die before RM realise we shouldn't be going out at 10am on these 25 degree days?, cos I'm really expecting to read on here soon that someone somewhere has collapsed!

Is there anything we can do about these late departures from the office?

there is somrthing i have read about working in the heat & cold,apparently there are +&- degrees maximum that we are not allowed to work in,but there again RM will say,"take yer break & wear that gay wide brimmed hat"

Likewise, and I'm twenty or so years older than you ( although I might not look it ) just survived until I get back to the delivery office, then absolutely too knackered for anything else today - except the usual few minutes on here.
And it's still only Spring. Wait for the summer.
And one old dear this morning, as i hands her her post, asks "will you be out sunbathing when you get home ?"

Yes, "a reasonable temperature during working hours in all workplaces inside buildings" if I remember correctly, so those of us outside at high noon can just frazzle. So much for being looked after by Health and safety regulations.

It is a tried and tested remedy and thousands of posties can testify to that.

Thanks. So these are the six things that management should be doing :
Hot environments
- Reschedule work to cooler times of the day
- Provide more frequent rest breaks and introduce shading to rest areas
- Provide free access to cool drinking water
- Introduce shading in areas where individuals are working
- Encourage the removal of personal protective equipment when resting to help encourage heat loss.
- Educate workers about recognising the early symptoms of heat stress .
Whan I get in on Monday morning I'll ask my DOM to sort these things out for me.

Im sure it will be sorted and you will get out at 11.30 with full waterproofs on to protect you from the rays of the sun, croc dundee hat and a 6x2ltr pack of bottled water to carry in your pouch.

Can you guys think of other jobs that have to work outside for a long time.
Builders,scaffolders,roofers come to mind.

We are on to a loser with this,and before you cane me,i'm f****d as hell after i've finished.In fact at times i feel sick and a bit faint because i've been hit so long with the sun.
