A postman in Johnstone was the victim of a thug brandishing a meat cleaver as he went about his morning rounds.

Seventeen-year-old Mark Joseph Anderson admitted at Paisley Sheriff Court last week that he threatened the postie with the weapon in South Campbell Street last year.

The court heard that the postman was going about this morning duties in the area on July 8 last year around 10am when he heard someone shouting on him, later identified as Anderson.

The procurator fiscal said when Anderson approached the postal worker, â€œto his horrorâ€

Postman probably ended up going down the conduct code for failure to safeguard the mail

Heard a rumour that we r gonna be expected to deliver pharmaceuticals. Can you imagine how many of us r gonna get jumped if that goes ahead. Plenty postie sacks flyin down the road, postie lyin in a heap, jet powered junkies now workin for RM

the scumbag will be let off as his parents are divorced or seperated. the postie will be told by the manager that he will be given a conduct code for leaving the mail. whats the point of complaining to the plod anymore

When I was jumped a few months ago, the line manager tried his best to show concern, but you could really tell he was more concerned about him having to deliver the mail himself on a Saturday morning in the rain. The soft sod who tried to steal the pouch tried to punch me, but was too far gone on White Lightning and speed. His two mates were even worse than him. The coppers picked one of them up, but let him go. He tipped his mate off who got rid of the clothing he wore on the day so when the coppers called, there was nothing to identify him. Not one manager apart from this line manager ever enquired about me. From the DUM up, not one ounce of concern. As there were three of them, I wasn't going to turn the bike around and have a go back even though I fancied my chances against the mush who threw the punch. It's taken several months, but I've found out where they hang about from a mate of mine. It's just a matter of time before I find out where they live, then one night after work I'll be making a social call. It's often strange the was people don't recognise you in your civvies.

I wanna hear a nice story of a postie doing something for the good and purpous of all.. Just like this Postie.. I would of loved to of been him just before the meat cleaver came out and as the YANK posties have pepper spray... Gave the turd with the cleaver a gob full of spray..... A whole can would of been used on him.... Ohhhhhhhhhh the fecking w****r!!! I just hope the postie gets over it and gets some compo for it!!!! Hope the union will back him if needs be????
