can anyone help me please?

evening hope someone can help me out with the following,

my wife has been off sick since sunday with sinus infection, twice now her boss has turned up to check on her, once on monday and today while she was at the dentist with our daughter. she now has a doctors note signing her off for week until next wednesday but her doctor also said that the way her boss is behaving is causing her to be stressed. my eldest daughter answered the door to him today and said she thought she (my wife) was at the dentist, but her boss went nuts spouted a load of bollocks etc claiming she's close to getting the sack etc. Can he actually turn up like this without making an appointment? i thought it was harrassmnet if they just turned up like this, and with him turning up like this it's actually making her stress worse.

any help or advice greatfully received

they shouldnt really just turn up, i dont know if theres an official word on it but your wife has every right to tell him if he wants to turn up to make an appointment and schedule a time that suits her. Dont let her feel pressured into going back untill she is ready, if she isnt sick that often then they wont be able to sack her, he is talking rubbish. The doctors word is final, make sure she stands up for herself and tells her manager she doesnt appreciate him turning up and not to do it.

If this Man spoke to your daughter or yourself in this way, it is out and out harrassment--you should have called the police. This is completely out of order,You should write to him directly and point out that you are not employed by him,nor is your daughter,he has no right to threaten your.even in this indirect way This is against the law!! I can almost guarantee if you do this, not only will you get an apology, but your wife will be treated with kid gloves.good Luck.

Good for you--and with luck he will not harrass your wife either on her return to work!

The head of HR knows his business. He has satisfied you without having to make a formal record on your wife's manager's file.

Make sure you get a record of what has happened in writing. The best thing would be to write to your wife's head of HR and thank him for giving her boss a dressing down for harassing your family. Go in to as much detail as possible. This will be a bit of an insurance policy as you will have some evidence of previous in case your wife is harassed in the future.
