"Guaranteed" Secure Delivery

Post by Conor »

I had one of these cards this morning. Not from the usual postie, but whoever delivers the "Guaranteed" Secure Delivery post. As stuff that has to be signed for often arrives very early, I set the alarm for 7am. Doorbell rang at 7:24pm, but when I got to the door a minute later, he was gone. Having left a card timed at 7:29.
Probably not typical, but totally unacceptable. I only used Secure Delivery as it was important I received it today. It hadn't been returned to the sorting office by midday, so I'll have to make another eight mile round trip to collect it on Monday. As well as making a complaint and compensation claim.
As others have said, it's the poor service that gets noticed, not people doing the job they've paid to do.
I realise this incident reflects negatively upon Amazon.co.uk and the feedback that you have provided will be used in reviewing the service provided by Royal Mail.

I'm not questioning the validity of your complaint but my only question would be.
If the intention of this delivery officer was to just leave the card and run.Why did he bother ringing the doorbell at all?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Good question. I wonder if I'll ever find out?
Whatever happened, one thing is absolutely certain. The card was not completed at 7:29am. It was already in my possession at that time.
To be fair, the only other time it had happened to me, a private courier was responsible. And he did not ring the bell.

I placed an online order at 2.55pm on Friday and the packet arrived, Recorded Delivery, the following morning (Saturday). I know I am singing the praises of fellow colleagues, but to be fair, we do get it right a lot more often than we get it wrong.

As well as making a complaint and compensation claim
I'm sorry but the postie may have gone by his pda which may have said 7.29 or your clock may be slow, but bedsides that he rang your door bell then wrote out a P739 (sorry your not in card) which takes time not 5 seconds,we can't wait forever, there are other people looking their parcels too.So a delivery was attempted to your address how can you claim?? I waited 3 days for DHL next day service for my phone. If Royal Mail ever go private you'll be lucky to get your parcel the same week!

I have stood at customers doors for 5 minutes and I know they are in. The lights are on, the television is on, car is on the drive, or is this the way most people who are not at home leave their house. As said before, it takes a fair amount of time to fill out a P739, Sorry You Were Out Card. If you were in the bathroom and did not hear, fair enough, but do not blame the postman for this. Get on to Royal Mail Senior Management and ask them why a postman has to rush around to get his work done in such restrictive time scales and why your service is being eroded. I think if your Special Delivery is brought to you at 7.24am or 7.29am whichever, you are one of the lucky ones. Many specials are not being delivered within the 1pm timescale because Royal Mail does not provide sufficient time for a postman to get to all of his round before that deadline. Just ask them how much they have paid out in compensation for delivery failure on Special Items.

Amen to that - in my personal experience, RM-delivered items that need a signature turn up quickly and fuss-free. HDNL-delivered items, well I think the only thing the driver puts on his van for me is an extra 'While you were out card' (I have had a few blazing rows with them over what appeared to be non-deliveries / cards left when I was clearly in and awaiting the delivery).

By strange coincidence about 20 minutes ago I got a knock on the door. A HDNL man was filling out a form but Yes it was my delivery. He was very polite and apologised for the delay - probably because he saw my storm jacket hanging on the peg near the door :Very Happy . Still it arrived no harm done.

But still 1 week from email to delivery

You being very very silly. What on earth is totally unacceptable here? You took too long to get to the door - end of story. It doesn't matter what the card says 7:22/7:24/7:30. That's is totally irrelevant! So the guys watch is a bit fast? What has that got to do with anything?

Your complaint should be thrown in the bin and it will be because you have nothing to complain about.

have to agree, how far could the postie have gone after writing the card?
given the OP was up @ 7am,heard the doorbell and the postie had to write the card out
