Unacceptable criminal convictions

Does anyone know which unspent convictions would be regarded as unacceptable for someone hoping to gain employment with royal mail? or does anyone know where i can find this information.

There is no such list as each case should be considered on its own merit. However, at a guess I would expect any crime involving theft, dishonesty, fraud would not atomically discount you but would make it harder. I would also suspect any crime that gets you onto the sex register would automatically discount anyone.

I thought it would have to be more clear cut than that?

I was recently given a job with royal mail and disclosed my conviction on the application and at interview. 1 week before I was due to start I recieved a letter stating that my contract was being terminated due to "unsatisfactory employment checks". I then contacted the security and vetting team and was sent the disclosure scotland certificate they recieved which stated I had an unspent conviction for assault. This was wrong and I've spent the last 10 or so weeks getting the conviction changed to the correct charge of a Breach of the Peace.

When I recieved word that it my conviction had been amended I contacted the HR team and they said to send evidence. I then recieved a phonecall to say they were sorry but Breach of the Peace is an unacceptable unspent conviction.

As far as I am aware Breach of the Peace is not a serious offence so how the does anyone with any convictions manage to get a job?

Also should I not have been informed at a far earlier stage about not being suitable for employment as I did disclose my conviction?

If my criminal record was correct in the first place why would there be any need to obtain a disclosure certificate which confirms what I have said in the first place?

If I told them I had this conviction why was my application not knocked back at the first stage?
