Special Delivery chaos....

Why aren't Royal Mail delivering Special Delivery items?

"Item XXXXXXXXXX4GB could not be delivered on 2010-01-07 as the address was inaccessible."

Well I thought if Royal Mail cant deliver one of there highest priority products I will go and collect it. Wrong, they couldnt even hand over the package at the callers office. If my paperboy can deliver the bleedin' paper why cant RM deliver special delivery? I live in a main city and RM are claiiming the weather is at fault. I accept the H&S argument but really, its not that difficult to drive the van down my road, get out and deliver it for christs sake.

PS they didnt leave a card the only way I found out was by contacting the retailer.

Your options - not many - wait till its delivered or your carded.

BTW - The postie does not make the decision not to deliver management does (except for individual addresses)- and if that entry on the track and trace is accurate I would say that local management have suspended deliveries en masse and not just on your item.

A blanket suspension is ridiculous. A cop-out by the local DOM in my opinion. I completely agree that posties shouldnt be out risking injury but all they have to do is drive down my road and make 3 steps to the door, not difficult is it?

Lets see if the local DOM gives me a call, probably not today though! And BTW if Royal Mail havent even attempted delivery of it and I've tried to pick it up myself what the hell am I supposed to do? Royal Mail are being unreasonable in not allowing me to pick it up. This is there highest delievry option! C'mon guys...

What was the reason given for not being able to pick it up? If it hadnt left our office, and you turned up with id and seperate proof of address then we would have gladly gave you it!

OK so basically, I wasn't red carded, went to DO to collect this morning, ref number in hand along with Driving Licence. Teenager on counter said I couldnt colect my special because none of it had been sorted and that there are around 800 specials to be sorted. He couldnt give me a timeframe either.

Great service.

Complaint made by the way, and personally Ive paid £6 for this service which has let me down, always been pretty impressed by special delivery. Forget about the weather, I should have been able to collect it myself, regardless.

Mine from Thursday hasn't left Swindon yet, going to Northern Ireland... It was a birthday present for a friend on Sunday, and it's not gonna get here until at least Monday =\

just because your road is clear it doesnt mean other roads on route to yours are clear, royal mail are covered for extreme circumstances like these, the guarantee for the special for next day is not the case in bad weather conditions. You will have to wait till it is delivered or you have a card left

how did you lose £6? did you post a special to yourself? cos in my book the person who posted it to you paid the postage, weather you bought something online and paid extra for the service is irrelavent, the person who actually goes to post and pay for it is the customer not the recipient of the item. The person who posted the item has the right to claim a refund not you. Specials might still need to be sorted because in my office they all came in late as the vans bringing them all to us arrived late due to the bad weather. This weather has a knock on affect all throught different parts of the business can't you see that?

the customer pays an extra fee online which is classed as postal costs, however that is a completely sperate transaction and does not make you the customer to the royal mail. It is still the person who posted the item, your postage costs to him/her are just to ensure he/she doesnt end up out of pocked in the online transaction, they still went and posted it and and sealed the transaction with the post office. Anyway my whole point on you not being the customer isnt really the important issue on the matter. You will get your special soon I just wish you could understand how the managers will wash their hands of all liability if one of us has an accident on delivery so some posties will do their own risk assesssments and decide which parts of their rounds they want to go to and unfortunately some will be left. But I can assure you a decision to not send some special deliveries out is not taken lightly they are very important.

I can,lots of snow and ice on the ground,dangerous conditions as is the whole of the UK,thousands of workers form all over the UK unable to get into work,government say it is critical,will give more updates when i get them.
