Parcel delivery service Home Delivery Network (HDN) is to acquire DHL’s parcel division, forming a £600m competitor to Royal Mail. The Times newspaper reports that the fee has yet to be disclosed and is still subject to regulatory clearance.
The capture of the DHL unit is expected to double HDN’s size and give it a market share of 17 percent, 13 percent lower than Royal Mail’s. The combined service will deliver 180 million parcels, and will bring together DHL’s current customer base with that of HDN, which includes deliveries to major retailers.
HDN’s business has grown as a result of internet shopping, while the business of its bigger rival Royal Mail has floundered, worsened by an ongoing dispute between management and workers.
Brian Gaunt, chief executive of HDN, said, “bringing these two businesses together gives us a broader service proposition than we have previously had. The scale allows us to compete on more of an even footing with Royal Mail. The timing is quite fortunate in that it’s the same month Royal Mail and CWU workers go back to the negotiating table.”

Re: HDN Capture Creates Rival To Royal Mail
Am depressed at HDN buying up DHL parcels as they cannot find my address. We have to phone regularly to tell them they have delivered to the wrong address. We constantly give them directions and finally get the item but then the same scenario begins again with the next item ordered. I even emailed Amazon and told them how piss poor they are but they apologised and said they couldnt pick and choose which courier to use for individual addresses. I am close to emailing them again and telling them that I will no longer use Amazon whilst they use HDN

more people in their own cars getting paid per item delivered=more parcels/packets dumped here there and everywhere=more people complaining about not receiving items=more replacements having to be sent out=costs businesses more money=business looks at alternative delivery methods
wouldn't be surprised if we end up delivering the lot via down stream access.
Why have DHL sold there parcels unit are they struggling?

They are "rationalising" and "concentrating on their core business" so, of course they are struggling.hazzeem025 wrote:more people in their own cars getting paid per item delivered=more parcels/packets dumped here there and everywhere=more people complaining about not receiving items=more replacements having to be sent out=costs businesses more money=business looks at alternative delivery methods
