Investors 'want break-up' of TNT, parent of Royal Mail rival TNT Post UK

LONDON - Jana Partners, a US hedge fund, has bought a 5 per cent stake in TNT, parent of TNT Post UK and TNT Doordrop Media, in a move that could presage the break-up of the Dutch postal services giant.
A Canadian asset management group, the Alberta Investment Management Company, was also revealed today to hold more than 5 per cent in TNT.
Financial commentators say both moves, revealed in filings to the Dutch stock exchange today, are designed to prompt a break-up or sale of the group.
Investors are calling for TNT's lucrative express division to be hived off from its troubled mail unit, according to Reuters.
Earlier this year TNT was identified as the most likely candidate to buy a stake in Royal Mail, had the Government's plans to part-privatise the UK postal carrier gone ahead.
US company BlackRock, an asset management company, also owns 5 per cent of TNT.
TNT has long been considered a takeover target, the FT reports today. US postal services companies UPS and FedEx, as well as Germany's DHL, were thought to be interested in acquiring the group last year.

Re: Investors 'want break-up' of TNT,
Hi surewecan Whoever takes over they will look at the dsa side of things in the uk ie; profit margin's working practices, management ect and when they have stopped p:::ing themselves will close it down and invite one of many takers to do a comedy series about it,now that will be a best seller. Special first prize for anyone who can think of a name for the series, first prize a job at TNT,no that's wrong that's the last prize. All entrant's must be deemed to be a relative/friend, or someone not born in this country but knows when to say "i no speak the english",but how long do we get for break or "anyovertime mate".surewecan wrote:Cant come soon enough for us that work at TNT Mail UK , then perhaps the indians will cull the cowboy management![]()
PS this is just a joke thread(well the last bit) and in no way meant to be racist some of my best mates were not born in this country and will probably enter the competition .
