Warning over festive scam

Police are warning customers about a parcel scam in the run-up to Christmas.

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting it cannot deliver a parcel.

You are asked to contact 0906 6611911 – a premium rate number. Do not call the number as this is a mail scam originating in Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the call.

If you receive a card with these details, please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

Interesting, why involve Royal Mail. The only thing I can think is that the card looks identical to a p739? The only reference I can find for this number is a link to the story posted hundreds of times.

And why cant the number be barred?

Thankfully this bunch of crooks was shut down by the premium rate phone calls regulator PhonepayPlus – previously known as ICSTIS – back in December 2005. Anyone who calls the number now will not get through to anything except a dead tone, and yes we have tried the number.

The chain email refers to a service (operating on 0906 6611911) that was shut down by PhonepayPlus (then ICSTIS) in December 2005. PhonepayPlus subsequently fined the company that was operating the service, Studio Telecom (based in Belize), £10,000.
