I am pleased to say the 12 city link packs i sent yesterday have all arrived and been signed for , it cost me 35p less per item than the royal mail RMSD service ,

If I had to send a package via Special Delivery I wouldn't trust it with City Link. I have no doubt City Link's standard service can be cheaper than Royal Mail's most premium service but there is just no comparison.
Unfortunately in your favour, Special Delivery is often mis-sold to people who do not require it.

its all very well for business customers to take their business elsewhere, but what about us normal joe's on the street who just want to post a few things?? what alternatives do we have? none that i am aware of, and that is unfair!!

british gas and BT etc are no longer allowed to be monopolies and we have a choice about who provides our utilities, so why are we stuck with having to use one mail service? the government should step in and someone should give us an alternative to use!

All the other postal providers like TNT , CITY LINK DHL BUSINESS POST ETC ETC HAVE A LICENCE TO DELIVER POST

they choose not to as they can use us and they make all the money from nicking our profitabe bits of the business

No, but you can go to other companies and ask them to deliver something for you. Unfortunately unless its a large item or a particularly large bulk posting, they will most likely simply refuse your buisness. It's simply not profitable for them to deal with joe public

no. No other comppany wants to deliver letters. even though they can, we ( rm) DONT have a monopoly as you say we do

I presume that includes delivering letters as well, but all except Royal Mail choose not to.

The Post Office (POL) are part of the same business group as Royal Mail Letters, we all (along with PF) come under RMG. You would hardly expect Tescos to sell ASDA Tea Bags would you.

lets face it if your a customer with no real knowledge of the postal system and just want to use it to send your letter as probably 90%+ of people do then youd be amazed at how Royal Mail isnt a monopoly.

If you take a look at the mail RM deliver now its getting close to 50% and probably more of COMPETITORS mail that we`re delivering. This is whats really eating into profits, a company comes along and takes the profitable leg of the postal system and essentially dumps it on our doorstep and we have to deliver it. Of course they pay RM to do it but its probably break even per item AT BEST for RM to deliver these items and RM doesnt have an option to say no. How can that be fair competition ? why is a public company subsidising huge companies such as TNT? These are questions to be put at Adam Crozier he must have some ability to refuse this unfair practise yet he chooses to attack his workforce instead, trying to cut costs to make this raping of the RM feasible.
Surely if RM stopped delivering all this mail for TNT, UK Mail etc then theyd leave the mail system, theres no way in hell they could afford to set up a universal delivery service or get enough a share of the market to make deliveries worth their while. RM would then get back all of those contracts and would go back to being a profitable company.
Something very fishy is going on somewhere which is stopping RM doing this, its a huge cover up and its a total scandal.

We are going to go bump because we will lose £4.20 a day it hardly makes a big difference when the whole company is 10 billion pounds in respect of it's pension fund broke already!.

As a postie who also runs a small business I use RM all the time I have never had a lost item in 4 years (24288 items to date). I have lost a few customers through the strikes but not because we were on strike but because my customers were unwilling to be patient and wait 48 hrs instead of 24 hrs for there goods. My argument was if they wanted it so quick go to high street and get it today then. Oh but I remember I offer free postage regardless of what they spend and sell at prices upto 50% cheaper than some high street stores.

My bussiness doesn't depend on RM but it sure helps me. If I switched to a courier my costs would increase to a point I'd probaly have to charge the customer therfore reducing my competitive advantage.

All that being said I if RM has it their way the service I could offer in the future will deteriorate over the years.
